This topic arose in another thread, but in the interest of organization (and also because I need a little more explanation), I‘ve started this thread.

Throughout my entire application process thus far, I was told that this was my schedule for joining the CF as a Regular Infantry:

Basic Training (10 Weeks), then off to MOC Training (Battle School) to learn everything about the Infantry for approx. 16 weeks in either Wainwright, Meaford or Valcartier. Once that was completed, I would be posted to my unit, wherever that may be.

However, I was recently informed that this isn‘t the case. Apparently, the process is:

Basic (10 weeks), then to "Soldier Qualification" for a month to learn god-only-knows, and then to "Basic Infantry Qualification" to finish learning about the profession, I suppose. This final step wasn‘t given an estimate of time taken.

So, which one is (more) correct? Thanks for any help, mates.

I would guess, the SQ for a month makes more sense.
Basic Trg is comprised of many recruits sometimes going onto different MOC‘s, therefore, the courses might not go back to back.
So in your case, your QL3 might not start till a month after BMT which is why you will be doing SQ.
I might not be exactly correct here, but years ago, it was called Base Holding and until your crse starts, you will be employed in the fine art of sh*t jobs, doing medial things on base.....

hope that helps some

That‘s what I thought too. As far as I knew, there were only two training courses you took. Basic, and MOC-training. Now, if your MOC-training didn‘t happen to start until a month or so after Basic ended, you‘d be placed in a Holding Unit until the course was ready. As you said, it was just general labour, menial tasks, etc.

But from what I heard, this interim course was mandatory and a structured part of the training that everyone took. Which was news to me.
