Cleaning medals?

Tristan,

My first lead fizzled, but with Google Fu I found the likely manufacturer.

Carat Medailles Inc. in Montreal 514 937-5665

The kind fellow there says they do repairs.

The base metal is 85% copper with a nickel overplate
and a 14K or 18K gold plating over that.
!4K or 18K gold plating is actually a gold nickel alloy.
Color matching may be difficult if you go somewhere else

My suggestion is that they are the most qualified to do your repair.

Flip, that's awesome! I'll give them a call and see what they say. It seems like they will be the best option. Thanks a lot for your help with this! And thanks to everyone else too!

Tristan

On the topic on medals but not quite on the cleaning aspect so move if needed.

A subordinate of mine had given her medals to her boyfriend to get them court mounted while she was away. the problem she ran into was that he had them dipped without asking her if this is what she wanted. Is there any way to safely remove the dip coating and return the medals to their original state and finish?
