I used to have one of these in scale 1/1 issued to me by the Canadian Army
in 1959,it was a 13cwt.ex sigs van.It had an in destructable GMC 6 cyl.,I know
because I tried everything I could do to blow the engine because I knew that
parked in a field in Ontario ,rusting away, was my "new" 21/2 ton van if I could
only blow the engine on this old turkey.I only succeeded in burning out the
clutch, clutches they had, engines they didn't.However in 1960 they decided
that taking 2 days to get to Wainwright from Calgary was not good and they
finally gave me my 21/2 ton van.The other veh. in our section,Inst.sec.W&E
plt. 1Fd. WKSP., was a 15cwt.van.
I was in Normandy for the 60th D day anniversary and among the thousands
of military veh. driving around to various liberation enactments, everything
from jeeps to Sherman tanks,I spotted a 13cwt with Canadian 2Div. tac.
signs,it was owned by a Swiss, both him,his son and his wife in complete
WW2 Canadian uniforms with weapons. He explained to me that the Swiss
military had bought the Canadian CMPs in 1965 but had never used them
and that is how he came to acquire this fine old veh.,he also told me he had
shipped it to Canada to take part in some activities in Ont.
hope this will be of interest.
