A few months ago the US Marines and army started issuing the Ceradyne (3M) Enhanced Combat Helmet (ECH) which apparently is capable of stopping rifle rounds a close range (not sure what the v50 rating was on this new helmet).

Does anyone happen to know if this is just a lot of hot air?

How does our CG634 fair compared to other helmets out there?

Is the CG634 the latest combat helmet issued by the Canadian Forces?

Yes, for general issue. (No idea if other helmets have been issued to anyone).

I know a modular one was tested, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmluHzgJirE#t=0 , that said since those tests i've never heard anything going on with it so i think it died.

It must have died, since I can't find antyhing recent on it.

I can't say I'm a big fan of what they presented in that video.

Now to go a little off topic;

Maybe building a standalone helmet is the wrong direction for future combat equipment. I know some of the defence industry are trying to move towards a exosqueleton type armor, where the helmet is attached to the vest via a spine and every piece of armor kit is modular but attaches to one another to form one exosqueleton armor. This would be considered a passive exosqueleton.

To make things a little more ineteresting there are two companies developping active exosqueletons for military use.

Lockheed Martin is developping the HULC.

Sarcos has the XOS.
