Communicator Research Operator (Land) question!

I've been merit listed on Aug. 26 and was just seeking some basic information from the recruiters. Once my application was completed I was told that I have been lucky to be 'considered' for a job because it is now officially closed. I was just wondering if there are still numerous positions to be filled? I am not asking for any information with regards to the application process, I simply want to form a better understanding of the job availability in this job sector.
