Hi, I'm doing a component transfer to the regular forces and I have to redo my BMQ etc at St. Jean
I was just wondering if I have to return my kit the reserves issued me and be reissued new kit when I go for training? or do I get to keep it?

any info would be appreciated

thanks

You will be told by higher exactly what stuff you are keeping, and what stuff you are returning (to either your stores, or base stores.)

You will return to regimental stores any and all kit that was issued by your unit - all your GSU issue kit is on you permanent docs and will therefore follow you until you retire.

Hey Maverick,

I'm thinking of doing a CT as well and since you've probably done it by now I've got a couple questions. How long did it take from when you sent in the paper work to arriving in St Jean? How do you like redoing BMQ? I wouldn't mind if reg force offered alot more hands on training than reserve and it was a little different. Did you end up having to turn in your kit?

If anyone else has any answers feel free to post,

Thanks

hey guys, just finishing up my paperwork for my CT. went from Naval Reservist (MESO) to RegF Vehicle Tech. i started that transfer process in september, signing the contract offer at the end of the week.. now as for kit return it depends on 1. where you recieved your kit,  and 2. if you are changing elements, or just trades. i know for my transfer all i have to return is my NCDs (naval Combats) and not my DEU's or Whites/Salt and peppers... when it's time for you to do your kit return, just call the clothing stores/supply where your supposed to return your kit, and get a detailed list of stuff to go back. Cheers

Just curious, why did you have to redo your BMQ?  I did my reserve BRT in '01, CT'd in '06 from reserve diver to Reg medic and bypassed BMQ.

Anyways, for me I submitted my paperwork in Jan, got the call in Feb and reported to Borden in Mar.

Diver - each case is different.
If you haven't been in for very long OR aren't too far ahead in your qualifications then it is quite possible that you have to redo the basics.
Note that they have eliminated the SQ course.  Part of the SQ has found it's way into the BMQ while the other part has found it's way into the Trade qualification part of DP1.  If the applicant has not completed his SQ he may very well have to redo his BMQ to complete the SQ material.

Everyone is different.

Good point.  Nothing is set with the military.  When I CT'd, I was QL5 and they were still running SQ (which I ended up doing).

Thanx

Diver,
It's not a case of "nothing is set".  The CF have done considerable changes in the QP / TQ structure over the last couple of years and reservists will find themselves either before, during or after the changes.  Combat arms types who have served in Afghanistan will receive a CT in the same rank they held in theatre.... and that's a huge change IMHO

If you ae doing a CT, in the same element (EX army to army)

you will on return the kit you have sign to you Pres Unit, for you combat kit, (ex: ruck sac, tac vest..etc...) yo will keep it and the clothing store deserving you will tranfert the papers to your new clothing store.

As for BMQ and SQ, these days it varies of your trade, your B class time.

a few people who were on the same BMQ were set directly to PAT platoon and were credited their BMQ and SQ, few were infantry, one was Comms, etc...to my knowledge none of them did haveto reddo SQ or BMQ. I was told by CFRC that it was deprending mainly on the Trade you are applying. If it is a "red" trade, their are fewer chances to redo the course. But like may said, it depends on your file, on your trade, on you B class time, etc,,,etc,,,etc,,,

It is common practise for all ResF members CTing to the RegF to return all of their Temp Issue kit prior to CT.

This is because qtys are limited at ResF Units, and because the RegF will see you entitled to "more" and "different" kit items.

That being said, DEUs will be retained (as they always are) for they are permanent issue items. If you are Army and are CTing to a RegF Army trade --- you will be entitled to a whole new initial issue of Army DEU. Likewise the other environments.

Common practise is to start from scratch going from ResF to Reg, not so the other way around. When CTing from Reg to Res, you will be allowed to retain any kit that a ResF member is entitled to should you have an official copy of the acceptance letter detailing the ResF Unit and position number in that Unit that you will be moving into.
