Contact lenses in the desert

Hello,

First post, please sort me out if I'm doing it in the wrong forum.

I normally wear contact lenses, the kind you can leave in for a couple days
when you have to.  I've worn them on exercises in Wainwright when it's
been windy and dusty, and they were uncomfortable but they worked.

Is it at all workable to use contacts when deployed in Afghanistan?  From
what I've read that place is a whole new level when it comes to fine,
irritating dust so I'm wondering if I should look at glasses or laser surgery.

Laser surgery would put you on a temporary medical category for several months.  And contacts in the desert would be a very bad idea.

The utility of contact lenses in the desert depends on whether you are employed inside or outside the wire.  Many at desk-type jobs inside the wire wear contacts daily.

I'd be going as an armor crewman.  That job's known for its uniformly excellent air quality, right?
