Hi,
Friend of mine wants to get several cosmetic surgeries done. Yet I'm not sure if there allotted by the CF? He is currently a active member. He is not looking for any deductions from the CF, all will be from his pocket. He just doesn't want to be reprimanded. Is that possible?

The surgeries are:
- Laser Eye Surgery
- Nose Job
- Ear-pinning <- whatever that actually means... never heard of it before now

Thanks

Feel free to move it from this section because I'm unsure where the thread should be. I figured being reprimanded and all, then the MP section would be best...

Are you referring to the location of the thread or the cosmetic surgeries question?
The question is in a better spot now - I leave it to those who know more than I do about such things to respond to the bod mod questions.

There's nothing wrong with getting them done but, along with paying for them, he might end up having to use his own leave for sick leave unless the procedure is medically required.

As for the ear pinning, I got that done when I was a kid and had another procedure to repair one of my ears covered by the CF because I was having a hard time wearing any type of ear protection without pain. So it does happen that these things can be covered.

The nose job should be relatively simple.  I had one done about 3 months ago.  It was all done within a couple of hours.  Mine was reasonably straightforward - they removed a bump, which required them to break the nose.  If you want work done on the tip of your nose that might take longer.

I took two days of annual leave to recover and was back at work with a small nose cast for a week after that.

No heavy lifting or push-ups, etc, so I did my Expres test prior to.

My surgery was purely cosmetic and not in any way medically related so I used annual leave.

Laser eye surgery usually requires pre-approval, even if the mbr pays for it.  If you search "Lasik" in the Enrollment Medical forum, you'll find lots of info.

There is a really detailed policy on laser eye surgery for serving members -- I researched it for one of my troops a few years ago, but I no longer have a copy. It was a good, comprehensive document that spelled out the do's and don'ts. If I recall correctly, your post-op meds could be acquired through the CF system, and the CF is willing to provide medical care for complications (because your eyes falling out falls within spectrum of care) but that's strictly based on memory. Consult your local MIR/CDU for this document so you're informed before you get zapped.
