The main purpose of Courcelette is to conduct "individual" training.  It is not setup to conduct tactical exercises.  Currently Austere Village is being used for tactical exercises but it is owned by the CF School of Mil Engineering and it is not really designed as an Infantry training site.  I've been told that one of the priorities of the 3ASG Comd (Gagetown Base Comd) is to construct an Infantry urban ops tactical training site.  I wasn't informed of any timelines though.

Currently 2RCR is putting together a training site where they can make rooms modular walls, I've been informed that a similar site is being constructed in AATC Det Aldershot.

Believe it or not, I think things are getting better they just aren't happening in one day.

If I am not mistaken, the Army will be putting most of its resources into constructing a "complex terrain" (MOUT)site at CMTC in Wainwright, so we can do some realistic urban training as well as rampaging around the dunes of Wainwright. There may not be alot of money for advanced sites elsewhere.

Cheers

You are not mistaken pbi - the Army is trying to grip the OBUA trg site sit.  You are also correct that there will not be any centrally controlled funds available for OBUA construction - and no doubt the Areas will be closely watched after LFCA's successful progrm to build "Leslieville' with Area funds.

When I left Valcartier 4 years ago, they were in the process of building a very decent built-up area, consisting of permanent, multi-floor buildings. It already had 2 or 3 large buildings built around a T-junction and a "fire house". I believe they had plans to build more. It is in the old "Camp Dubé" area.
I am posted back there this summer, so I will investigate this further and post pics.

"Leslieville' with Area funds.

I see the good general has not changed from the days when we he was inflaming us in LFCA with his "take the money and run" approach to doing good training for 1 CMBG when he was the Comd there, but the Army was (supposedly) under a Lvl 3/4 training restriction. Too bad that this has historically been the way that good training has often been funded: by "smash and grab".

Cheers

Yes, 2RCR currently has modular walls for use as kill houses. They have just been assembled and training will commence soon. Also the kill houses are to remain indoors for training all year around.

Its great that the CF is beginning to create training sites such as these but I can't say I liked what I saw of their drills though...
I didn't like what I saw either, but....at least with the sites being built-up, they will get some training they obviously require. Definitely a step in the right direction.

True enough...But teaching the wrong thing, or the right thing incorrectly isstill not a good idea, no matter how good the location.

Stacking drills are great for SWAT teams and the like...But when the bad guys have the same kit you do (like GRENADES and such) its probably not such a good plan.
