Current military traditions

Only the military would make something like New Years Eve suck 😏
*Day, friend. They're actually pretty decent events (I have gone to the ones here in Kingston for a few years) and they're a good incentive to not get too stupid the night before.

That said, when I was still on the sauce, I never was one to listen to that incentive.

Should have clarified. I know Levees are on Jan 1 - they make New Years Eve suck (as in there’s something going on the next morning)

NORAD escorts Santa could be considered a tradition.

I have to admit that I still get stupidly excited by the Santa Tracker although, being a Cold War kid, I wondered about the possible connection between 'Communism' and the red suit ;)

They were being justifiably cautious when tracking the object that appeared on radar screens from the direction of our Cold War adversary.

Is Santa Claus Now or Has He Ever Been a Member of the Communist Party?

"Santa is what he is," Fox News' Megyn Kelly declared on Wednesday night. Or is he? Kelly was insisting that Santa Claus must be white, because one must respect "the legacy of the story." And here, it seems, Kelly is a victim of the propaganda of her ideological foes. Because we have good evidence that Santa was in fact a communist. . . .

Now it is more of a security thing. Santa has many enemies, ISIS, the Taliban, China, North Korea, Iran, and probably others who would like to see him harmed. We are the very least have to make sure that he is safe in Canadian airspace. It's probably one of those unwritten rules of being a member of NATO.

Not to mention…what’s in the pipe that he smokes?

Thank you everyone for your input! Trying to reasonably gather and share as much of this info that I can (of course, bearing in mind society norms of today)

Ya there’s some seriously thin skinned people out there that would be offended if you talked about the Mens Dinners or Soldiers Christmas Dinners of yester-year. Some might even question how we knew that Holiday even identified as Christmas…

There's a good argument for shifting the big annual celebration slightly to the right and have a big New Years' party.

I mean Dec 31st Eve is fairly non-denominational, and the prevailing culture of this celebration means that everyone has a clear runway to drink like a Scotsman ;)

Well, it is the 7th Day of Christmas. But more importantly, who really wants the military to take New Year's Eve away from them?

I thought LRP's raison d'etre was to cover holidays for SAR?

I’m telling mom!

A billion years ago Venture (Naval Officer Training Centre) promulgated a document called 'Neptune's Notes' that promised to instruct very junior officers in any manner of behaviour and some traditions. Recognized (even at the time) as misogynistic, anachronistic and just plain bad, you can find it if you Google. I will not dignify it by providing a link.

For the Navy, Seven Days at Sea (for the newbies on their first deployment.) Tends to include sweaty overweight stokers, pink frilly tutus and duct tape. Lots of duct tape.

Allegedly.......

I was speaking about the majority, obviously there will be people on duty somewhere while others are on leave/holiday.
