From time to time I happen to see folks with custom made (not wheelers or dropzone) 64 pattern rucksacks done up by some private maker (five external pockets as opposed to three etc.). Unfortunately no one ever seems to remember where or whom they picked it up from. Dose any one here know who makes them on a somewhat consistent basis, these people have to exist somewhere. :)

I've seen some of these five pocket ones. I have one which is just a stock 64 bag with an extra pouch sewn onto each side. No idea where I got it.  ;D

Failing having a nice bag to start with, they're stupid easy to make. Get a POS rubberized-nylon one, cut'er up and reverse engineer:

Use #69 thread and some good coated cordura.
Some 1" strapping.
A few fastex buckles/few ladderlocks
550 cord. Grommets. Cordlock.
Some velcro if you want to make the map pocket.
Ooo! and a sewing machine  ;)

You might save a couple bucks and learn something new. Or just find a Mat Tech, Para Rigger, or ACS Tech and ask them to do you a solid.

Cheers,
Eric

Do a search of this site for the 64 pattern rucksack - plenty of suppliers are making up new bags & a new set of improved straps.

Am not planning to do your leg work - but will say that you will find your info here - on this forum.

Have a nice read
