Hi,

Need some advice or opinions about this:

I received a call today from recruiting indicating that my application will have to wait until March 2012 because I am classified as a D5. I was interviewed in Nov 2010 at the recruiting center in Montreal. Can anyone explain exactly what D5 indicates?

I was in the RMR 'Reserves"  in Montreal in 2004 but was unable to complete my training due to my full time traveling job in field service so I decided at the time it was best to leave. I always wanted to come back and now I finally have the opportunity.

I have re-applied and was recommended by the Capt who interviewed me but now I was told the new policy is a 1 year wait for D5's.
I am upset about this policy but nerveless determined to re-join.

I'm 44 in decent shape, 40 pushups, 2.4km-11min 15sec, 5km 25min 30 sec, 8 pull-ups.  At 1st I thought maybe it was my age but I read here in the forums another applicant in the Black Watch at 47 joined up as an officer so I now still have hope.

Thanks,

I believe he may be referring to an item 5(d) release.

A 5(d) release is not good.  The detailed explanation of the release is "unadvantageously employable."  I was released under the same article.  I'm not sure what you've been told exactly, but CFRC Det Barrie told me that as of 08 APR 11, a directive was passed down stating that all prior service members who released within the last 24 months are ineligible for reenlistment until a 24 month time period has passed from the date of release to having an active file in Recruiting again.  Whether or not this applies to only 5(d)'s or Reg Force only, I do not know.  I was informed this for the Reg Force side of things.

I was released in 2005 so maybe thats why they told me 12 months for 5(d). Possibly the criteria may be different as well for the reserves. Anycase I'm not giving up and will call back every 3 months because they did mention things can change.

Wait what?  If you released in '05, well over 12 months have elapsed.  Is CFRC telling you that you need to wait until MAR 12 or is the unit themselves?

Not the unit, they have openings and I told that to recruiting and I'm ready to start training!
I guess it starts from my new application and because of my 5(d) release?

So I finally received more info on my file, all not good... :-[

Update:

I went NES (Non-Effective Strength) for close to a year which prompted the 5D, release from the Canadian Forces.
It wasn't so much the withdrawal from the course but coupled with a NES period of close to a year prompted a 5D release, of which I signed.
There is also no email record of my request to be released so at this point I doubt things will change and will try again next 03/2012

I was also informed by the Ombudsman I could write a letter to DMCA, Col By Drive, to see if I could have my 5(d) status changed to 4(c) but that could take just as long to see any results.

Obviously this is very disappointing for me. My advice to others is make sure you know all the rules/directives etc... before you request a release. Even though it was not directly my fault because I had a traveling civilian job at the time I am still accountable as such for the NES.
