Danish Pizzeria Owner Jailed For Showing Support To The US in Iraq

How long before someone compares this guy with David Ahenakew?
I feel the same way about that particular piece of genetic debris. Stood by his principles, yadda yadda, allowed to say anything, blah blah, Freedom of Speech, etc etc.

Now, Norgie pizza is alright, but the best I ever has was in Split, on the Dalmatian coast. Do NOT eat pizza in England! They put corn on it! CORN.

Hey, I could make a huge list of countries that in one way or another "does wrong", but the individual citizen should never be blamed... Ever >:(

Thanks for stopping by Troels.

Can you set me straight on how mandatory national service in Denmark currently works, and how it use to work? I understand that all males serve 10-12 month. Was this always the case? Is 46 too old to join the army?

Slightly OT, but I hope that*s okay:
The time of mandatory serving is no longer than 3-4 months now, due to recent changes in our "forsvar"/defence.
(But earlier, and as long as I can remember back, it used to be those 10-12 months you mention)
Same kind of changes as seen in many other countries by the way; regiments disbanding, barraks sold to civilian companies etc. etc.
Professional privates or "konstabler" who chose to sign a contract* after doing recruit/basic training, will not be accepted after the 26th year of age. Officers are only accepted up to 24 years old.

*I believe the contracts are made out for 3 years at a time.

When I went thru Sturgis South Dakota in 94, I went into a local roadhouse, which was very rednecky to say the least (I loved it  BTW ;D), and above the front door at the entry the sign "WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE ANYONE" was present, and it was for real.

My belief is if I owned a pizza place, I feel its up to me to refuse anyone I see fit, whether that be for barefeet and no shirt, or any other reason which warranted refusal. After all its my property. Sorry to the PC crew out there, buts thats just how I feel, and my right in today's society.

Good on the owner of this place for doing what he feels is right. Thats where I would be ordering my 'bacon double cheese' pizzas from if, I was a local.

Cheers,

Wes

I'm of two minds of the manner - on one hand, I agree with Paracowboy and Wes that this is inline with the censorship thing, the thing with our Western society is that you are aloud to be a ignorant prick - Britney was quite right, this guy is a douche bag; but it's his pizza shop and he can be a douche bag with it if he wants.  If it was me in the shop (since Canada didn't support the war either) I would probably say "Fuck You" and walk down to his competitor down the street.

On the other hand, there is a line that has to be considered - he's painting French and German citizens with a broad brush and probably acting in a discriminatory manner - I'm trying to figure out what we on this thread would be saying if he stuck a sign out on his front door that said "No Coloured People" or something to that effect...

Of course, upon reflection I think that the individual right to be a prick is counter-balanced by the communal right not to suffer the effects of somebodies prickish behaviour; I would guess that this right would lie in the fact that the city could pull this guys business licence for discriminatory practices....

in which case you vote with your money. This way, the individuals in the community close him down, NOT Big Brother and the Thought Police.
And if he was a racist, who refused service to Blacks or Asians, I would still say the same thing. Just have a lot less regard for his intellect. Anybody has the right to be a complete moron, and I have the right to mock them unmercifully for being a moron. (I also have the right to throat-punch them, once my mocking causes them to take physical action.)

Well I am of the opinion that he had every right to refuse service to whom ever he wanted.   Isn't that what being a democracy and having the right to chose is all about?   Now if he was in charge of hiring and firing at a government or private institution that is crossing the line.

You are confusing a "private club", which certainly CAN decide who it's members are, and a "public business", which cannot discriminate amongst it's prospective customers without cause.  "Cause" is usually non-payment of bills, rowdiness, etcetera.  "Cause" is NEVER race, nationality, etcetera.

The above holds true in Canada, the USA, and I assume most western democracies including Denmark.

As I stated in a posting somewhere above this, had this guy done the same thing in the USA, the results would have been similar (IE - fine/incarceration, etc).

The only problem I see there is that every store in the community can then throw out the "No Coloured People" sign on their storefront.  How is the person supposed to vote with his money at this point?

I don't think selectivity with business licences is the Thought Police - I don't think their is an innate right to open up shop in the community.  Once you enter the local economy, you are leaving the Private Sphere (where I defend your right to be an ignorant prick) and entering the Public Sphere (which is governed by the Social Contract yadayadayada) in which the public has its own rights and responsibilities.

But I do have to say that I find it rather interesting that he is called a douche bag or a prick because he chose a side that the liberal progressive anti-bush press oppose.   Now if he was denying Americans (there were plenty of Germans and others in europe who were denying americans entrance) because he was opposed to US policies he would be supported by a bunch of granola, weed smoking, anything is oaky, F the establishment crowd, and of course it would be touted as a moral stand and that he was a political prisoner...you know all of the left wing garbage.....etc.   But hey not that I am cynical or anything, after being flipped off and spit at by Canadians in Sarnia and Windsor just because I have a US plated Auto.    :D

No, I'm calling him a prick because he is assuming that all French and German people were against the War in Iraq and telling them off (by refusing them service) because of it.  I would have said the same thing had he refused service to Americans or British for going into Iraq (in other words, the issue is irrelevent, the behaviour of the pizza vendor is what is being examined).

In Denmark he is known as Pizza-Aage and are supported by most people..

But as in most European countries we have large "not-danish" population and eventhough they do most of the crimes it's considered racist to say it in public...
And eventhough most Danes supported Pizza-Aage's choice... They had to consider it racist and he had to go to court... But he smiled on his way to jail!

As for Germans not owning property in Denmark- it goes for all Non-Danish citizens. And is about hollyday-houses and apartments
