Dates for LogO phase 3 ?

zorro said:
As I said, training for some phases is being offered based on priority. Eg., situation with my co-worker who is deploying next year with MSS. He has no LOG phase and is currently in Borden doing his phase 4. Why is he doing phase 4 now? Not because he's caught in the middle, because its the only course they could fit him into and he needs to be phase trained up to phase 4 to be deployed.

It seems our two definitions of "huge" and "backlog" are very different, because I stand by what I just said.

My information comes from a LCol, not a CM, but suffice to say a credible source.

Well, ya, of course they stuck him on a course if he needed it right away. But Log O courses right now are NOT being offered on a 'priority basis' as you previously claimed. The reason many people in your position aren't going on Phase III and such for the time being is because they are implementing the new system. I guess I should have clarified, my info comes from my CM (in regards to the plans for people caught in the middle of the trg change) and from other people in the log world (with regards to your incorrect claims of course being given on a 'priority basis').

My info is correct, you can be assured of that.

I am honestly not worried about it as I have a few summers left before I am out of school and employable anyway.  That and I really have no desire to go on the first iterations of any new course :)  Better someone that is just finishing up and ready for their posting to a line unit than me.  I'll gladly do some local EWAT and play rugby all summer.

Sounds like a sweet deal to me. I would get a hold of your CM anyways, IMHO, you never know what kind of courses/qualifications you could get slotted into with your CM's help as opposed to just killing time making coffee (I am in no way insinuating that that's what you would do). It worked for me (and since I believe, from your profile, you have extensive previous experience, you could always slot yourself in on a TAV/Staff visit etc to Afghanistan, not likely, but possible). It wouldn't hurt.

Perhaps I myself should have clarified. I was not implying that all LOG training was based on priority, rather that there is a waiting list with a select few people being loaded due to their needing the training ahead of others as the situation dictates. My "claim" as you put it, is not incorrect. Either I wasn't clear, or you misunderstood what I was saying.

I think everyone is aware that the LOG phases are being re-worked, however, this doesn't change the fact that some who have no phase training are being loaded on what courses they can be, even though they are effectively 'behind in the waiting list" of others who have completed prior phases. Hence; "priority basis".

You just didn't word it well.

Was this person someone with previous experience or a special skill set? I know I had some people on my LOCC who were Capt's and were Log O's for years but didn't have that course (for various reasons).

I'll wager that your friend was in Borden doing the QM course ...

The Log O Phase IV course is off the shelf and in front of the translators right now (as are the the vast majority of the "specialty" courses - they were all re-written and overhauled this past fall) ...

But, there was a QM course run from 11-23 Jan. My Lt was on it (and she has no Phase IV yet either ... <--- and I'm not telling her anything about what to expect with the new Phase IV course [of which I helped write] other than "fun"!!  >:D)

When do you think they'll be starting the new courses?

Apparently, there's a backlog with translation services these days ... and they can't launch any of the new courses until they have been officially translated into both official languages (being an officially bilingual country and all that jazz). I can't begin to estimate how long it will take to get the new stuff launched as translation services are well outside of Log or CFTSG jurisdiction & who knows what priorities they have set in their own part of the world.

I am quite sure though, that as one Phase Course or Specialty course becomes translated --- they'll get candidates loaded onto it and have a launch of that particular course as soon as they possibly can.

(When in CFSAL in December finishing up the lesson plans --- I did hear that it would be "May ... at the very earliest) <--- and that wasn't for 'all' the courses to be translated.

Don't you guys do it in-house Vern?

Do what "in-house'?

Phase IV, Log O, Fin O, Tn O, QM, Phase III?? et al?

Nope CFSAL.

And having experience with Translation Services, once you get your product back from them, you will have to have someone with a Bilingual Profile redo the translation, as invariably they made numerous errors.   ;D

Well,

I hope they are having fun translating the approx 37 powerpoints and all the lesson plans and homework assignments and scenarios and aide memoires and yadda yadda yadda that I did. Even doing them in english ... I had a great time with all the acronyms (I suppose ... the translators will have to figure all those out before they'd know which franco acronym to throw into the french version of the ppt etc  >:D )

Geez, just the sheer volume of acronyms associated with escorted and non-escorted convoy ops, DZ/LZ, dumping programs, Tactical Road Moves, Aerial resupply, Conducting Laundry Bath and Decontamination Ops, the Replenishment System - Sustaining Land Ops, FTXs, PC (X2 for each - just in case someone needs a 're-do), ECs for them all (the ones I worked on) ... and I was just one of approx 20 brought in to work on all the courses ... I filled up numerous CDs with new stuff myself.

It's going to be a while before they get everything tickety-boo ... of that I also have no doubt. I did save them a little work though ... I get into the "Deschamps Method" in one of my PPTs and Lesson Plans - at least "Deschamp" is already translated for them!  ;D

And you did that on purpose too........

And if you were really nice you'd package all that up and send it to a loggie going on Phase IV eventually...a loggie like myself.  ;)

I think every Log O on this base waiting for Phase IIIs and IVs has been hitting me up for copies ...

I'm a red-head; it's NOT going to happen.

Sorry bud, it sooooo sucks to be you.   ;D

Given that I even asked at CFSAL ... "say (with big grin on my face) - seeing as how I re-did this Phase IV Course ... does that mean if I CFR I can get it written off??" Nope said they.

But, that's all good --- I have an awesome 'pre-course study package' right here beside my computer should I ever choose to do that!!  >:D

Which you'd be willing to share for one...two....ten cases of beer?

You've been on the site long enough.  You know beer just isn't going to cut it.  You'll have to try using some of the good stuff.

Fine. A bottle of Glenfiddich and a couple of Cubans then?

Vern.  On the LAV ramp.  In a Lawn Chair.  Feet up on a jerrycan of water.  Oakleys on.  Bush Cap.  Smoking a Cuban cigar while sipping a wee dram as the Phase III's scurry about the Leager............................................Maybe?

.....But I don't think she likes Scotch.
