Fox News had an interesting article about the subject ...

I would simply note that most pole dancers are "exposed" - can't imagine who would be interested if they were fully clothed - so I'm not sure what the big deal is.

The 27-year-old daughter of radical Islamic cleric Omar Bakri Mohammed has admitted to pole dancing in London bars in defiance of her family's strict Muslim beliefs, the Daily Mail reported Friday.

Yasmin Fostok left Bakri’s home four years ago because she did not share her father’s opinions.

"I don't get on with my dad. I don't agree with his views,” Fostok told the Daily Mail. “I just get on with my life and that is it.”

She currently lives with her 3-year-old son in South East London, whom she had with her ex-husband after their arranged marriage.

Fostok performs a fire-eating routine and performs semi-naked inside cages.

“If this is true I am deeply shocked,” Bakri told the Mail from Lebanon, where he has lived since being exiled from England three years ago. “She was brought up properly in the Muslim faith but she is free to make her own choices in life. But I am still shocked.”

“If she has done these things she will be judged on Judgment Day. But God will forgive her anything except becoming a non-Muslim.”

Bakri sparked controversy when he praised the 9/11 terrorists and said he would “never condemn Usama bin Laden or any Muslims.”

Interesting comment:
"But God will forgive her anything except becoming a non-Muslim.”

Not quite what I would expect of an open minded person of the 21st Century.  More of what one would expect from someone straight out of the Dark Ages.

This "Muslim" states that being non-Muslim is a sin?

To my understanding, the Islamic faith does not condone this line of thinking.

There is an unfortunate number of "Christians", "Jews" and I am sure people of other religions who share this line opf thought. Thankfully, like this guy, they are the vocal minority. Heaven forbid anyone judge me on the actions of the Phelps crew because they claim to be the only good Christians on the planet.

Hmmm... (sarcasm on)
she should be grateful that he isn't into honour killings......

Ooooh the shame of it all

(ok - sarcasm off)

Aye, I recall reading somewhere that they are acceptive of all religions because their god is technically the same one.

Anyways... keep the fight goin' against the radicals  :threat:

Radicals of all religions are not acceptable. They pervert the words written in order to satisfy their lust for power.

Hmmm...  If I may, it sounds like the mullah is referring not to being a non-Muslim, but to becoming a non-Muslim.  Islam, apparently, has historically discouraged its members to not convert away from it (i.e. apostasize) upon threat of death.  Basically, the fundamentalist interpretation is something along the lines of:  if a Muslim tries to convert to any other faith, they deserve to be killed.

Sure, all religions try to discourage their members from converting away, but Islam seems to be the only major world religion that seems to be willing to kill them for it (wing nut cult groups notwithstanding).

Now, before people jump on me for being Islamaphobic or anything else, I'll point out that this seems to be the interpretation of the fundamentalist end of Islam, and is not necessarily indicative of all Muslims.  I've got a hunch that this would be the opinion of a very small faction within modern Islam, but they do seem to be the ones on the other side of the two-way ranges from us.  Of course, this is all my personal opinion, and is not related to the policies or opinions of Government of Canada, the Department of National Defence, or the Canadian Armed Forces in any way, shape, or form.   :P

Xena....
I noted that this lady had gone thru an arranged marriage - so I deduct that her parents would be traditionalists.  So - Honour is a big issue for them.  So, to a mullah/iman, having his daughter as a pole dancer could be looked at as an attack on his Honour.  How he address that issue will be umm... interesting

No doubt Geo.  I just hope we don't read about her having some sort of suspicious "accident".  Some people don't seem to be above that sort of thing.  Good for her though in rejecting her Dad's evil views.

Heh...."who greased the poooooooooooooooooooole!"!!!

Tea all over the keyboard and desk.  And up my nose too.  Good one though.

I've read that too.

Sounds just a little bit like she is 'rebelling' against her family beliefs...

That still doesn't justify killing a person.  Whether they were a non-Muslim or not; there is no justification to kill a person.

No kidding.  It doesn't justify it to you or me, but then these guys aren't you or me.  It boggles our minds but, that seems to be the way these super-fundamentalists see it.
