So yeah , 2-3 days ago I was speaking with my step dad who was also a Master Warrant in the regular forces for 35 years ( retired 5-6 years ago ) and we were talking about being in the reserve while I would do my degree in my local university here.

But somewhere in the conversation he told me that if I got into the reserve as PART-TIME , I would only work 2-3 days a MONTH ..... Which i find really really weird .... I mean I know I'm not getting into the army for the money , but working 2-3 days a month won't help me pay my rent and stuff , I will probably apply for school help ( here we call it Pret et Bourses ) , but then again , will I need a part-time job PLUS reserve PLUS school ???

I thought I would be working Tuesday night , and every Saturday - sunday ....

can anyone help me out ??

Generally, in the Army Reserve you'll work one night a week, one weekend a month.  Plus occasional other work, if available, plus there's usually full-time traiing or work in the summers.

In the Sept-May timeframe, though, assume 4 evenings per month (the equivalent of 2 days) plus a weekend of 2 1/2 days.  That's 4 1/2 days per month.

alright , so I will try to keep my regular job , try to apply for reserve and get into school , should be able to work it out I guess ... haha

On top of your part-time work (school year) is the $2000 maximum education reimbursement. If you are good at managing your finances many of us have earned a degree as part of the reserve.

When you first get in you will work almost every weekend or every other weekend depending where you are and how they run the BMQ plus your one night a week. Once you finish your training which could take several years depending on your trade there is more opportunities to work weekends either supporting courses or exercise. I'm class A and I worked 6 full days in the last 2 weeks that's just regular training with weekend exercises. As Kratz stated the reserves pays you money for school, either half your tuition or 2000 dollars which ever is less.

yeah well I have to go see the university and apply for tuition money .... since I'm going back to school after 6 years of working full time , they usually give you a little bit more money , I will also try to keep my day job and work every weekend that I won't work at the reserve.  I'm also moving to a city which cost less money for the apartment and everything all together , so yeah , hopefully I'll be able to maintain a regular lifestyle ... the only thing that bothers me right now is the fact that my girlfriend is looking into buying herself a car , and I want to help her with that , since she's helping me out with everything and that she accepted my career choice eventhought she always said she didn't want to be a military wife since she was a military daughter ... but I guess that loves makes you change your mind hahaha

Don't you know? Women look for men that are like their Daddy :P

Edit: As a side-note, it's pretty easy to have a healthy life-style with all of the bursaries that schools offer. Check out with a councilor what you apply for. There are probably a lot more incentives than you know ;)

Yeah tomorrow I have to call the university and speak with the head admission departement
