Hi   everyone,
I applied for CELE(83) a year ago and the file is now complete ( ERC took eight months). Initially I applied for CELE only , but now I heard CELE is very tough to get in. My recruiter told me I have two more weeks to add two other choices.    I graduated with the G.P.A of 8.5/12 as an electrical engineer and has 16 months of intern experience in semiconductor industry. Now I am open to other positions too, could you please give me some high demand positions in the CF (except pilots) so I could list them as second and third choices.
I am just trying to increase my chances of getting in as an officer.

thanks
sel

MARS (Maritime Surface & Subsurface) and MARE (Maritime Engineer) seem to usually be in high demand.  I'm pretty sure AERE (Aerospace Engineer) is a tough one right now, but LEME (Land Electro-Mechanical Engineer) might be a possibility.

I would concur with MARS. I know for a fact they snap up DEO candidates like candy.

I would also suggest Logistics. They always seem to have a steady need for good candidates.

SIGS (84) is the obvious choice.  Basically the Army version of CELE.  If you're interested in CELE, you'd probably be interested in SIGS, and you get the $40k recruitment allowance to boot (at least, its on the books as lasting until 2006).  But don't pick something just because its high demand, pick you something you want to do.

My choices were CELE, AERE, and SIGS, in that order.  I never heard anything about my placement on the CELE boards, and it wasn't even close for me for AERE (for some very simple reasons), but I got an offer for SIGS.  Which is great, because I second guessed the order of my choices several times.

I totally agree. Don't just pick something for the sake of it.

You have an Engineering Degree, so you really have lots of options in the CF.

I hope you are right about Logistics.....that is what I am trying to get an offer in, preferably Air.  My second choice is Signals and third is Infantry

I was in the same dilemma , But I don't want to do   anything with navy.

Is there any body who is waiting for the November CELE board meeting. I applied for CELE , Signal, AERE.   Please don't apply for CELE ??? I want CELE ( kidding) .
If CELE is tough to get in it is going to be tougher to get promoted from that "elite" group.
SELGAJA If you don't get in this meeting there might be a chance in the next meeting, at least that is what I am hoping.

You never know, your grades look good and you have some "work experience" I think you have almost everything.
My opinion go for CELE, signal, electrical and mechanical.

good luck

You could always look into EME.  I don't know how in-demand it is, but I don't hear of many people applying for it.

I applied CELE AERE and SIGS.
I am worried bout the info u have . if they don't have enough openings in the CF why are they advertising like crazy in CFRC for CELE?
any recruiter reading this please answer

What a nice rambling thread...

I am a signals officer at the signals school in Kingston. (cele is here as well)...

HIGHEST DEMAND TRADES - By far it is MARS...  they have a huge failure rate so they love new candidates. SIGS is also huge... Signallers are the most deployed soldiers in the CF.

ENGINEERING DEGREES - Your marks are important and your work experience is important as that will have an effect  on your rate of pay...  for example... two signals officers can sometimes not be paid the same... because one has more experience out in the world. BTW... kiss most of your degree good bye... officers do not do ANY engineering or hands on technical things.

CELE is harder to get into because the Airforce is half the size of the army. Therefore fewer positions.

There is some information from the inside.

Hey, thanks for the input zapoko!

Why does MARS have such a high failure rate?

Edit: I deleted a paragraph as the topic is already being discussed in another thread.
