Difference between local and national recruting

Good day,

could someone explain to me the difference between the national recruiting and the local recruiting? i was told the previous position i applied for was national selection and would have a less greater chance of a job offer than the current trade that i have applied for now which the CFRC said was local recruiting?

Well, I'm not a recruiter, but I'm gonna take a wild guess here  ::) and say that national means they are recruiting from all across Canada while local mean they are recruiting from a specific city/district/CFRC.
 
Selections are either Open Selection List (OSL) or National Selection List (NSL).

OSL means that each production officer at your local CFRC has the ability to select and assign you to an occupation and training course (BMQ or BMOQ). The occupations that are usually OSL are generally more in demand (read higher number of positions to fill).

NSL is when all the applicants are merit listed nationally and one production cell at CFRG HQ selects off the top of the list. This is further complicated by some occupations requiring specialist boards to review the files before selections are made.  ROTP works this way.

It matters not wether the occupation is OSL or NSL we hire the best person for the job so your chances of getting the occupation you want are based solely on your file and how you fall on the merit list. 
 
CFR thank you kindly that helps out tremendously. Because I was going DEO but chances were very slim so it was brought to my attention to apply to a NCM trade is the relevant to my university education, then if i decide later on down the road i still want to be an officer i can apply for an OT i think it is called. The CFRC told me the main thing is to get my foot in the door, which i agree with. and the CFRC did say that my education would help me out being higher up on the merit list mostly because i more qualifications than the usually people who apply NCM. so i hope thats true lol.

GW, Thanks for that thread. However after speaking with some people who are currently in the NCM trade that I have applied for if I get in I doubt I'll ever want to be an officer mostly due to the job as an NCM seems to be more up my ally with being more hands on boots on the ground. I get bored easily and don't think I can sit behind a desk for my whole career. However if you are able to explain in a little more detail in how the local recruiting works I would be very interested. For more detail I have applied for Supply Tech and RMS Clerk mostly because I feel I would be better suited to those based on my education (business) background.
