I live in Mississauga, Ontario and the closest unit to me is the Toronto Scottish Regiment (which I might consider in joining).

I wish to apply to join PPCLI and I was wondering since it's based in Edmonton, am I able to even apply since I live far a way?
If it is possible, would I be able to write the aptitude test in Toronto or would I have to fly down to Edmonton?

The Tor Scot is a Reserve unit, you can join them if you are considering part-time service. The PPCLI is a Regular Force regiment, and an appropriate choice if you are intending on full time service. Talk to your local Recruiting Centre about your options. You do not have to go to Edmonton to apply to join the Reg Force infantry and the PPCLI.

Well, that's great news!
I was hoping I didn't have to be living in Edmonton or have to fly down there just to apply!

Thanks for the quick response! :)

A few questions before we can really try and answer this one:

Were you wanting to go Reg Force, or Reserve? (you listed one reserve Regiment being close, but PPCLI is a Reg Force Regiment). Officer or NCM?

You can apply to the Regular Forces at any recruiting center (there is no need to do any test in the location of the Regiment). Same for the reserves, but you will have to have a recommendation from the reserve unit first (they have a say in who joins their unit).  Joining PPCLI (At the current time) seems likely (assuming you get into the Infantry) but your question is missing some details.

Feel free to elaborate and I'm sure you'll get some better answers.

Well, there's always 4VP too... But they're the Loyal Edmonton Regiment  :P

Basically, I would join the TSR if I am unable to get into PPCLI.

I am aware that the Toronto Scottish Regiment is a reserve unit and PPCLI is regular.

& how do I get this recommendation from the reserve unit? What are the requirements in getting this recommendation?

Visit the reserve Regiment and speak with their recruiter to start the process and get information. To start the process for the Regular Force I believe that starts with submitting a online application, you can also visit/call the local CFRC for information.

If you're curious, the closest regular force Infantry unit to Toronto is 1 and 3 RCR in Petawawa, On(2RCR is in Gagetown, NB).  Also, only 1 and 3 PPCLI are in Edmonton, the 2nd battalion is in Shilo, Mb.

One thing to do is READ some of the threads here that explain the whole process and answer questions that you have asked and questions you have yet to think of asking.  SEARCH.  Use the site SEARCH engine, or even better Google.  You do know how to search for things on Google, don't you?
