This puppy is nothing but evil. But still a hoot. I'm guessing he thinks his name is "NO!".. The dog hates the outside... prefere those pee pads indoors. Chews on everything. Hates the cage at night. Humps everything. Heck... humped my vistor yesterday! Humps my Peter Griffin Slippers! The dog is only 9 weeks old! Should of name him Horn Dog. Gawl!

Sounds like BOTH of you (and the Mrs) should consider Obedience School, before things get too out of hand. Easy to train, hard to break habits and retrain. Now is the time.

My wife has just made her way through the "Ceasar's Way" books, and we are in the process of rehabilitating our German Shepard a bit before we introduce a third dog into the pack.  The books are great, and the ideas underlying it all are quite straight forward.

Bottom line, as always - there are no bad dogs....

Should have named him Buckel, it's German for hump!!

Now me, I'd switch the damn things name to "Give 'er" or "Git-off-a-me" in this instance because it would be fun to explain how it came about the name.

Yep, definitely time for the puppy to head off to doggy school.

I highly recommend it.  When we got our pup last year, my wife had only one condition - Obediance Training.  It was great - in a very short time we had a pup who was very well behaved, could be trusted to stay in the yard, would heel properly - even off leash, would "sit", "down", "come" on verbal and hand signals and is just generally a pleasure to be around.  Even folks who are nervous around dogs are quickly impressed with her (and she's a BIG dog - guaranteed to make dog phobic people tremble upon sighting her.)  There were still the occassional puppyish chewing incidents here and there, but overall she's a very well behaved hound dog.

I couldn't have trained her so well without the guidance and instruction given by the dog trainers.  Oh - and make no mistake, it's not the DOG getting trained at these classes - it's YOU.  You take what you learn there and train the dog.

I can't say enough about the pleasures of a well trained dog - and I can't say enough about the chaos that can be created by the UNtrained dog.

I had a stubborn as an ox Irish Setter years and years ago, who was bought to be a hunting dog. I got him as a 6-week-old pup, and before he was big enough I had him trained to hand signals. I used Wolder's Gun Dog, and his methods work. One thing I'll never forget is his section on reward - wait till you get home from the training session or hunt. "Ever try to put a milkbone in a shotgun?"

He did his first point at about 6 months - on a cat under the truck. He got up into a classic position, his front leg started wobbling, and he fell on his side. Just try not to laugh at this fat, half-grown pup! When he finally got out to hunt, he was brilliant!
