I am not sure if this thread has been started and an answer yet figured out over what to do if you are come upon a military public monument .
On a military base even in civs you pay respect to such structure. Are we then required to do the same with a public monument? I asked this question because of what happened to me a couple of days ago. Story: I was in uniform and even if I was not I would have done the same I passed a military monument for fallen soldiers with our Canadian flag flying I did I full salute with eyes turned towards the monument and after passing resume my normal walking. I was then approached by a gentleman who told I don't have to do that, ie salute and furthermore I don't have to even do an "eyes-right." He was a younger gentleman, I didn't asked if he was military or not, I just acknowledged him and kept on walking.
My question is what is the proper procedure if I am faced with this situation again. Repeat above actions or do something else?
I apologize before-hand if this thread or something similar has been produced and answered before.
