Hi:
What sort of commercial style bulldozers and tracked loaders is the CF using? I saw a few today being hauled down the 401 - one was OD green color (with visible black color Maple Leaf painted on hydraulic arm) and some commercial construction yellow. They looked like the late model D-7 version of a Caterpillar machines.  Or are these leased general government equipment and not DND? There were also some very large 6x6 Volvo dump trucks, OD green as well. The hauler was Roberts from Quebec.

We can have a rather mixed fleet. Armoured Caterpillar D6 are relatively common, but there other varieties out there (in some cases these may even be one-of's).  I've seen a few FD30 and D7 high-track as well.  I've been told that (in the past) a lot of engineer plant was bought using funds that became available as a result of projects sliding right.

The upside is that things get bought.  The downside is that the fleet becomes very non-uniform and a difficulty to sustain.

In Edmonton, we use D6, D7HT, and an older Case.

That is if you don't count the museum piece that we just painted to go on display out front of the regiment ;D

We were also told that we should expect replacement equipment "within the next few years" to replace our 40 yr old stuff. Unfortunately, that also means "you're not getting parts and repairs" if you read between the lines

Which one is this?

100 km/h!!

we...... don't like to talk about that one.

(it's called an MPEV, one of the army's 'be all end all' solutions..... we all know how that usually ends up)

And only for the Regular Force Regiments, us Reserves get to use the Case Backhoes.
