Does anyone know what gear I'll be issued for the upcoming CAP in May?
Tac Vest?  Webbing?  Can we buy our own chest rig?

Are camelbacks allowed?  In CADPAT only, or in OD?

Thanks

I'm going to jump out on a limb here....but I think that you will use webbing only and "gucci" kit that is very obvious (aftermarket vests etc...) is banned.  I'm hoping someone will be able to clarify here.

Good Luck
(Are you PRes. or Reg?  It shouldn't matter much however, seeing as to how its the same course.)

You will use the Tac Vest - if you don't have one issued to you when you get there, you'll sign for one on a 638 when you get there - you have to return it during your outclearance.

Hydration packs are allowed - in fact, they are strongly encouraged.  Try to get your hands on something like a Camelbak Thermobak 3L - they come in olive.  Do not waste your money on the CPGear systems, they're expensive for LCF, and the bladders they sell are junk.

Redeye,

Can you confirm if this is for both Reg and PRes Forces?

Ultimately that would be up to the course warrants, but since there's no "Reg F" and "P Res" CAP any more, it's all the same course, I can't see the difference.  We were strongly, strongly encouraged to have some sort of hydration pack throughout the field portions of CAP.

Piper, you can order one off sealsactiongear.com aslong as you have online banking you can order online(email money transfer), they usually ship items withen 24 hours of you placing the order an ship with xpresspost.  You could order one now, or when you are on course(providing you got access to internet).

Yes 2 RCR has a kit shop, it is located the Maritime Club aka Junior Ranks.

I never saw a Kit Shop in the Maritime Club.  Are you sure?  Could it have been located in the Training Lecture Building next door to the Maritime Club?

I think the usual rule of thumb is that when you're on course, you should try to stick with issued kit, since there's a good chance you'll get hit for it if you don't.

Either way, i'll see you in Gagetown as well.

I'm willing to 99.99999% guarantee that there will be no issue with a Camelbak - we were all but ordered to acquire them last year.  My advice to you is to get one before you go - if this summer's serials are like last year's, you will not have time to go the 2RCR kitshop, and the Red Sash may or may not have them.  There's a law enforcement store in Quebec that sells Camelbaks by mail order, it's called R. Nicholl or something like that.  A 3L OD Thermobak is about $60.

I think NFLD_Sapper forgot the word 'next' ;D.  It is located in Bld. D21 (I think that is the right number) it is the RCR building right across from Bld. D27.  It is hard to miss ;D.

Good advice. I'm browsing a number of online stores as we speak. :)

+1 on the Camelbak, I used one at the school in '01 and '02, so by now you should have no problems.

For the most part it is up to the discretion of your course staff what you can and can't get away with, if you bring a few key items for a good reason you're more likely to get away with it than if you bring the entire CP Gear line for the LCF...

Some items people on my course used:

- Camelbak (no-brainer!)
- Pair of good gloves (you don't have enough dexterity with the issued ones and if you don't use any gloves your hands will get torn up pepperpotting up and down the lawfield, I used Hatch kevlar shooting gloves)
- Extra boots in the follow-up kit (it doesn't matter how many pairs of boot you bring, they will all be soaking wet a few days into a FTX, thanks to the swamps)
- good boot insoles (superfeet)
- Knee pads (these might be issued now...)
- Stealth suit (it rains a lot there, and gets cold at night)

Other items you NEED:

- Ziplock freezer bags, several boxes of each size, pack EVERYTHING in them, you should be able to throw your ruck in the river and still have dry kit.
- Bungee cords and tent pegs for your half-shelter, bring more than you need as you will leave some in the bush during that 3am bug-out.
- Mosquito coils, gagetown is the spiritual home for jihadist mosquito's, burning coils is the only way you can eat or sleep in piece.
- A few packs of Staedtler superfine and fine PERMANENT markers, you'll loose some.
- LOTS of pairs of socks, see point above re: swamps
- Lastly, a sense of humour and determination, having the proper mindset is ten times more important than any piece of gucci kit you bring with you!

Good luck!

Piper, let us know how it goes this summer.

I'm "very excited ::)" to be going on CAP next summer (I'm too old for this......no, wait, I'm too FAT for this now, yea that's better).

As Mike_L said, Gagetown is the home to the biggest hungriest mosquitoes.  The be coils are the Raid ones, they are available at the Cannex, along with zip-lock bags, socks, ect.

As for boots most schools don't like non-issued ones, so I would recommend not buying any if you don't already have them.  On the other hand, Gore-Tex socks are a must.  If you are going to be in the field is August, bring your Gore-Tex jacket and pants, because it can go from 30c to around 5c at night (sucks even worse when you are sitting in waste deep water).

You should think of getting one of these: http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441892881&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302696025&bmUID=1145413037307 you can get them almost anywhere, and they are great to have wile sitting in a trench at 'O Dark Stupid' ;D

hoped this helped,

Not 100% sure, but around 10 weeks...

Eleven weeks - 5 x 2 week modules of training, plus 1 week of Cowling Cup, admin, course closeout, outclearance, etc.

Maybe I won't, now it seems I may be on SLT this summer after BOTP. My ULO does not tell me jack, so I'm just going off RUMINT.

Easy answer here though, how long is CAP?

Piper,

You should be going on SLT.  SInce you are Civvy U, most candidates who are doing BOTP this summer will fniish off the summer with SLT.  The only exception I am aware of are those going Navy, as they go to their environment familiarization training, and some air force (rare exceptions).  I might be wrong with this, but I'm pretty sure.

No problem.  The SEM Lt.(N) should have sent you your training schedule.  It would tell you your whole summer.  You can probably email her to ask her, however I know she has been bombarded lately and doesn't answer emails that are not urgent.  I have a copy of the training schedule for all the armour guys and gals in Ontario, however I'm sure that would be of no use to you.  Let me know what trade you are and I will get your training schedule off a  friend.

Cheers

Never mind.  I was able to dig up some stuff from your profile.  Unfortunately I know no one who is going Logistics, so I won't be able to help you.  Try starting with your ULO.  Good Luck and see you in week!
