FELLFAB Limited Awarded $18.9 Million Defence Contract
November 10 2003 -- FELLFAB Limited has recently been awarded an $18.9 million contract by the Department of National Defence to produce the Small Pack System. This is the second contract award in support of the Load Carriage System under the Department of National Defence’s Clothe the Soldier Program. The program, established in 1996, was implemented to provide 24 items of operational clothing and equipment to Canadian Forces personnel conducting land operations. The Small Pack System is the 15th item to reach contract award under this project.
The newly developed Small Pack System incorporates the advanced Canadian Disruptive Pattern (CADPAT™) digital camouflage. CADPAT™ is a significant step forward in camouflage, concealment and deception on the battlefield. The Small Pack System will provide load carriage in operations where soldiers are required to wear fragmentation protection and carry combat supplies and sustainment items sufficient for up to 24 hours. In addition to the soldier’s own carriage requirement, the Small Pack System will provide a means to carry the soldier’s share of section/platoon weapons, ammunition and mission-oriented stores.
This award comes almost 18 months following a previous award to FELLFAB Limited of $10.7 million for the first item in the Load Carriage System, the Tactical Vest. "FELLFAB® recognizes the Clothe the Soldier Program as a significant commitment on the part of the Government of Canada and the Department of National Defence. We are extremely pleased to participate in this endeavour and to play a role in supporting our Canadian Forces. This is an exciting and rewarding time for the company, its employees, and its business partners", says Glen Fell, President of FELLFAB®. "This award is a noteworthy achievement for the project team who are thrilled with the result of their efforts. The Tactical Vest award was initially our benchmark, the Small Pack System award has raised the bar", adds Marie Darling, Small Pack System Project Team Leader and FELLFAB®â€™s Director of Marketing.
The contract is estimated to be completed over a two-year period and includes a sub-contract portion to Apparel Trimmings Inc. of Scarborough, Ontario.
FELLFAB Limited, established in 1952, is a privately owned Canadian company headquartered in Hamilton, Ontario. As a manufacturer of innovative, engineered textile products to niche markets with unique requirements, FELLFAB® is a leading supplier to the aerospace, aviation, defence, industrial, land transportation and materials handling industries. FELLFAB® is particularly proud of having participated in not only Clothe the Soldier contracts, but also other past prominent projects such as the Canadarm.
