I have done a search of the site and have come up blank on "official sources".  Can anyone point me in the direction of some "official sources" that detail how much the "new" fighting order weighs (i.e the weight carried by the average soldier who steps "beyond the wire") - i.e.  tac vest with ammo, water, etc.., frag vest with ballistic plates, helmet, pistol, rifle, etc...

Thanks in advance.

I do not believe you will find any "official sources". Borders on OPSEC.

But if you want a round figure of a basic fighting order (plates, 5.56x300 rds, 2 frag, 1 smoke, water).... about 60 lbs.

Obviously or not, the most varying number is the one we know the exact wieght of....every liter of water carried wieghs exactly 1 kg (2.2 pounds). And every soldier will carry 2-6 liters.

Add to that other equipment (comms, navigation, etc)and support weapons ammo, it's not unreasonable to add another 20-40 lbs or more in some cases. During some ops my vest was almost a 2 man lift, on others it was very lightweight, the mission dictates equipment and weight.

"Official answer" is who cares?  Still gotta be carried.

Not helpful.

I THINK all he is asking is the weight of the basic load. Not support weapon #1, or his ammo mule #2. Just the total weight of the main, initial, common issue (FFO) stuff. If you have a concern with OPSEC, PM or email him. I guarantee he's not a threat to security.

If anyone cares to help, contact him by the above means. If you see a need to continue, with 'unecessary advise', contact me. St. Micheals, MG34 thanks for the relevant input. Locked.
