Is anyone presently merit listed for the trade of Firefighter?  Just curious if anyone knows approx. how long the wait period is.  From what I understand you are "scored" so this means that even though someone has been waiting for a year or two merit listed, a new recruit could be up higher on the list even though he has only been merit listed for a few months by his higher score?

Also, does anyone know what the contract is for Firefighter?  Is it 3 years....or longer?  Thanks!!!

If anyone is wondering I found out it is a 5 year contract.

Doesn't seem like anyone is interested in the trade of FIRE FTR.  Good thing all those infantry spots are open

Fire Fighter is a very difficult trade to get in the CF.  I believe part of the problem is that there are far too many graduates of fire fighting programs at colleges across the country.  As I understand it, it's also a difficult job to get in the civilian world.  I know of an applicant to the CF as a fire fighter who had already unsuccessfully applied to 10 civilian departments.

Correct.  Selection is generally based on merit(score), and not simply on a first come basis.

If it is what you really want, hang in there but expect to wait.  How long of a wait is difficult to say, it could be more than a year.

If I recall Kincanucks posted somewhere about that trade being "closed". Of this I'm not 100% sure though so try searching the recruiting area.

Oh it's forsure closed.  But usually opens up for a short time (2 weeks) every year or so...with the exception of this year so far...but it's still early in the fiscal year.  So it could open when they want it to.

Doh...was thinking it was April.  Well if it didn't open in this fiscal year then hopefully it will in NEXT - this is, being after tomorrow for 1 year.
