I stumbled across this game indirectly one day last weekend and was pleasantly surprised.  Its called navyfield and it can be played for free or the super computer geeks can pay to move up quickly.  Its a WWII naval combat simulator topdown perspective.  You get to build ships starting with frigates and work up to carriers.  I just thought some of you might find it interesting I have the same user name as in here so say hi if you see me.

Check it out at Navyfield.com

Wow good find.  Online/Multi-player but free.

Now if only they'd make a version for Armoured Land Combat, it would be worth playing  ;D

---

Looks good however, I'll give it a try.

Cheers

If they put a Armoured game in this format it would rock.  Start in light armour and work up to heavy King Tigers.  Add line of sight rules and terrain situations it would be awesome.  It would have a close combat feel without the infantry.

On a side note anyone in here play in Navyfield let me know.

This is exactly what I have been looking for, I'm downloading it as I type. I can't wait to test it out.

The problem with FREE online games is the GRAPHICS suck and usually the storyline too, but I'll give it a try anyways.

I used to play this game quite a bit, and it didn't seem to have some of the problems associated with free online games (i.e. the asshats).  It's fairly easy to get to a stage where you can participate in the larger battles, and fun to face off between 60 other people with battleships, carriers, cruisers, etc.  Gunnery skills take a little to get a handle on.  I should see if my character is still on their server...

It's really slow to download, I'm looking at a two hour wait, I think its my internet connection.

It's been awhile (and many lbs ago ;D) since I'v been into games but I'll give it a shot.

I've played Navy Fields a bit and found the interface rather... "ungood." But then again, I'm used to Jane's simulations and their successors, as well as Silent Hunter.

Also, for those of you who might get hooked, you should know that beyond a certain level, you'll have to pay to keep advancing (ie, you need to pay to get bigger guns). Still, you'll get some enjoyment out of the game if it's your type.

Anyway, while I don't like the game, I hope you guys do.

Its really more for fun than realism.  You do need to think about tactics and the career progression of your sailors though.  In some of the big battles if your a small ship you just can go blasting away into the middle of the other fleet and hope to get ahead.  You get more points and credits for the damage you inflict on the other team so it makes  sense just to try hit and run and look for injured Destroyers and Cruisers.  Well have fun and hope to see you in there.

I'm on Missouri server my Nick is Navy_Blue

I'm sailing a Q class DD call the HMCS_MICMAC.

I want to work up to the big UK carriers and have an HMCS_BONAVENTURE  :)
