Fort Garry Horse

The Sask D's aren't anyones B Sqn.  They are their own independent sqn with a Commanding Officer who is a Major.  When in the field conducting joint trg with Garries the command of the HQ rotates between the Sask D and the FGH.

Congratulations if you are the largest unit in the Bde.  I trust your participation in field trg will mirror this as parade strength in an armoury is second in my opinion to achieving BTS in the field.

Thanks for the clarification Major Green, i meant no disrespect to your Regiment, just relaying what we had been told, i guess we have been told the wrong info (I'm sure thats happened more than once lol) Cheers! :salute: :cdn:

Thanks for all this guys.   So it appears that organizationally things haven't changed too much over 30 years :   A Sqn still parades 2 troops, B Sqn is still training troop, and the Sask Ds are still teamed up with the FGH on field exercises.   And parade strength is pretty much what was back then too.

Just confirms that not only are the Garries a fine unit, they are a stable unit.

And appropos of the Garries did anyone manage to watch the CBC TV movie A Bear Named Winnie last Sunday?   It has a "neat but not gaudy" connection to the FGH  and as someone who loves animals, Canadian soldiers in general, and Garries in particular I thought it was good stuff.

:salute: to those in both regiments for still sustaining the traditions of "balls to the leather" western cavalry !

Actually if you want pick nits as it were the "Garry's" were orginally mounted infantry.
ducking and running as fast as I can for cover!

True enough we were, Bolton's Mounted Rifles i believe, and yes we had members of the Regiment in that movie, they came to the regiment looking for people and they got a few, but yes over the years we have stayed the same in organization and over the years the Sask D's have gotten bigger which is a credit to them as well. But as you can see the information we are passed is not always correct lol, but we just chug along not as i finely oiled machine but as a machine that just keeps getting patched up to do the job it was intended to do!!! Facta Non Verba!!! :cdn:

Ahh yes Boulton  I remember the name I can remember researching the regiment's history in the provincial archives. As an aside I think for a time in the 20's doctrine called for us to act as mounted infantry again .

I'm right from the same time as you.  Since we first met on 11 Oct 91 at Minto.  Did my time with the Strat's and then I went BLUE

Bug ya later

Aaaaahh, Basic at Minto...

Brings back the memories... hope you had a good Christmas and New Years, Swin435.  I was working for most of it, but I did get your message.

I am thinking back to the breaks when you, me and Jonesy would be sitting up in the upper deck at Minto... good times...

Got off the bus (Greyhound) in Petawawa yesterday and the bus driver asked me if I was RCD (From my jacket) and then went on to say that the Garry's were holding a Reunion in Pet in May.
