When the GoC first mentioned the possible use of the EA my natural curiosity forced to to read the thing. Upon my finishing that exercise it was my humble opinion that it was totally inappropriate use of the EA and did not meet the threshold for its use. Especially since on the day it was enacted the border crossings were open and operational, the truckers blocking the bridge to Detroit were leaving and one lane of the bridge was already open and the crew in Ottawa had already started packing up to leave and were consulting with the police to how best to unclog the streets. Trudeau used the wrong sledge-hammer on the wrong target at the wrong time. As for the frozen bank accounts…..hopefully the banks get some blowback.

I’d agree with that. I was saying it myself in the first pages of this very thread, and ended up working front line in the event. While the numbers they were throwing out were still hilariously out to lunch, the few thousand people who DID show up and dig in made one hell of a mess. They had made their core intention and occupying downtown Ottawa very clear, so once it was obvious how many were coming, we should have been more ready and not let them dig in as they did.

As I’ve said before (granted with the benefit of hindsight) it should have been a full court press by police starting before first light the Tuesday morning after that first weekend. Catch ‘em all snoozy and without the weekend crowd.

I always felt the truckers were stupid in their tactics. They overstayed their visit far too long. They should have left the city the first Monday and left behind 1 or 2 trucks with banners in front of Parliament. Then continued slow-rolling convoys for a few hours every week in scattered diverse areas…and with the announcement that there could be other surprise weekend visits to Ottawa at various times. Just my humble opinion.

And if the local police were capable of doing their jobs properly that's probably exactly what would have happened IMHO...

Now it's time for lawsuits for those who had their bank accounts wrongfully locked?

Unless they had previously initiated it, they are now statue barred, as it has been nearly four years.
