I thought it was easy to get up and down while I was standing on the top looking out over the Lake. Then the decision was made and over the edge we went. Then after walking around there, it was the crawl back up the hill and thoughts of how bad can it be to sleep on the sand. But we made it back up the hill and laughed all the way back to the hotel room and hit the showers. Sand was everywhere.

May as well just tow it to the front gate of the Wing as a monument now. Can't see them spending the funds to repair this much damage on an aircraft supposedly being "retired".

Alternate plan: remove engines and wings, lowbed across the country to IMP for a rush job, and get it back (checks past on time delivery performance) in time for the RCAF bicentennial.

Would not Westjet be on the hook for damages? Or does tbe RCAF just say no you're good we will deal with it?

And even if Westjet's insurance does pay, is it the full amount? Or just something like thevcommercial cost not the military price? IMP will charge the RCAF more than a common carrier etc.

I would imagine that the investigation will focus on what ATC (ground) told Westjet to (and did Westjet follow their instructions) and what the parking policies on the ramp were supposed to be and did the RCAF properly park the Hercs. However, in general, it is like a car accident in a parking lot: the person in control of the moving vehicle is ultimately responsible to ensure they have clearance all around and don’t hit stationary things.

After that, the lawyers and Westjet’s insurance company gets involved to figure out who pays whom (The Crown is self-insured) and how much.

ATC has no control over a ramp. Their jurisdiction begins and ends at the end of taxiway. SeaKing is absolutely correct. It is the responsibility of the moving aircraft (or the tug driver if under tow) to ensure clearance for the wing tips regardless of ATC comments. Controller issue directions to use a taxi at the end of the parking line but the crew must ensure following the lines will provide separation. Not all do for all types of a/c. Some airports limit routes for certain types because of this while others insist on wingwalkers. Westjet's insurance should pay
 
Even if you look at google maps of the ramp, a 737 fitting behind the herc parked in its circle would be close. Will be interesting to read the report on that, the DFS office sure is busy these days.
