Hello,

I want to ask a few questions about the requirements and some other stuff. Some info about myself:
I am 17, completing grade 12 with all U courses; unfortunately not yet a citizen, applying for it in 2016; have vision problems, but will fix it this spring or summer, no other health conditions that may get on the way. So if I understand everything right, you MUST to be a Canadian citizen to apply to the army. Also since I have spent big part of my life in Ukraine they will have to do a background check on me which will take 12-18 month. So my first question is, is it possible to do a background check before sending an application? I want to get rid of this part first and it will give me some time to get my citizenship. I don't want to wait for 2 years until I get the citizenship and like 1.5 years until they will do a background check on me. Can I do a check in any other way that army will accept later? Also, for how long the medical exam is valid? I heard you can do it with the civilian doctor. And what is the acceptance rate this year? Where do people fail the most?

Thank you for the answers

Welcome to Army.ca, Neimon

As you will have some time to wait, you may as well start reading through older threads on this Site and trying out the Search Function. You will find that these questions have already been answered here, and you will also find answers to questions that have not even occurred to you yet.

On the CF website I believe background checks are done upon successful completion of the interview and medical

Medicals are valid for 1 year and afaik the CF doctor will check you out first, then refer you to a civilian doctor if necessary

Perhaps some correction in semantics is in order.  In most cases, an applicant will not be examined by a "doctor"; most recruiting medicals are done by a "Physician's Assistant" (if incorrect, someone more current will set it straight).  Also, use of "refer" suggests that a DND/CF employed doctor or PA assumes medical responsibility for an applicant if an underlying medical condition (either previously known or unknown) is discovered or revealed during the enrolment medical.  Should such happen and further tests, examinations, procedures or information are required before an applicant can be deemed medically fit for enrolment, the applicant will be informed what is required and it will be the applicant's responsibility to make arrangements for those services.

^Hmm I was curious about the vision test, I've been doing some reading and thought that if your vision is poor they will ask you to take a form to an optometrist to fill out?

Also read that someone with scoliosis was told to get approved from a family doctor then referred to a back specialist?

Not sure if this is still done or things have changed

. . . "they will ask you to take a form to" . . .  = . . . " the applicant will be informed what is required and it will be the applicant's responsibility to make arrangements for those services"
