by the time i get back to canada it will have been almost 2 years since i left them army. i have always planned on getting back in after my time here. what i am currious about is how long will it take to get back in ? will the waiting time be less than that if i hadnt served before?

i know that it is on a case by case basis, but just any general info will help, thanks.

Out of the country for more than six months equals very long waiting period for pre-sec. Out of the country and in Iraq for anytime and not associated with a Canadian government organization equals a very long waiting period for a pre-sec.  Notwithstanding the time it will take to gather your previous docs, you had better take a seat and get very comfortable.  Cheers.

i figured as much, anything i can do to speed up the process ? obviously i have kept track of my various address' over here, but is there anything else i can do that might get me in faster  ? i really dont want to sit around for 6 months or more.
also, what are the chances in requesting a certain Bn ? i spent 3 years in a mech unit and that is the last place i want to end up, and being a westcoaster of course 3Vp would be the logical choice. i understand that the army sends you where you are needed, but what are the chances of having a request granted ?

you can ask all you want.  You would either end up in VP or RCR (unless you speak french obviously).  So I suppose you would have a 2 in 6 chance of going to a light unit and a 1 in 6 chance of ending in Edmonton.  One consideration is family in or close to the area (ie you have family in Edmonton) and if you got say 1 VP you would have an easier chance of cross posting to the 3rd at some time as its a no cost move then say coming from the 2nd.

yeah, pretty much what i figured on that front, they will fill my head full of promises on shit to get me to sign the paper, then once im theirs again its anyones guess where i end up. all i know is that if i end up back in 1RCR im making a run for the US border.

Who know's they may even have you go through SQ/BIQ.  I could only imagine the frustration.

Put down the Regiment that you want to go to and the CF will do what it can.  What the CF won't do is "fill my head full of promises on crap to get me to sign the paper, then once im theirs again its anyones guess where i end up".  If you approach it with that kind of attitude then you will be in for a long ride.  Cheers.

funny, cause thats what they did the first time i joined, then they did it again when i made my componant transfer. anyways, that is besides the point, thanks everyone fort your advice...... and if i have to do my QL3 over again..or whatever they call it these days ill just say screw it and head down south, ive already done it twice, not doing it again. (1 reserve, 1 reg)

I'm not saying you will or you won't.  I suppose it all depends on when you got out and how much experience you have.  Then again that's all guess work on my part.
