Giant rat caught in China
A giant rat with one-inch-long teeth has been caught in the southern Chinese province of Fujian.

The rat, which weighed six pounds and had a 12-inch tail, was caught at the weekend in a residential area of Fuzhou, a city of six million people on China's south coast.

The ratcatcher, who was only named as Mr Xian, said he swooped for the rodent after seeing a big crowd of people surrounding it on the street.

He told local Chinese newspapers that he thought the rat might be a valuable specimen, or a rare species, and had to muster up his courage before grabbing its tail and picking it up by the scruff of its neck.

"I did it, I caught a rat the size of a cat!" he shouted out afterwards, according to the reports. Mr Xian is believed to still be in possession of the animal, after stuffing into a bag and departing the scene.

I'm thinking it might be a nutria and not a rat.  Note the webbed hind feet.

*Two distinguishing marks are the presence of a white patch on the muzzle, and webbed hind feet. They can also be identified by their bright orange-yellow incisor teeth (unlike rats, which have brownish yellow incisors).

All characteristics visible in the picture at article link.

And I think it may be a ROUS, from The Princess Bride
Buttercup: Westley, what about the R.O.U.S.'s?
Westley: Rodents Of Unusual Size? I don't think they exist

Dunno about you but, cornered rats would have been really, really vicious & wouldn't have let themselvses get nabbed alive.

Orange yellow VS brown yellow teeth.... I have no intention of getting close enough to see that.

Say AAAAH ! :P

Your comment brings back memories of Richard Kuklinski who videotaped some of his victims being eaten alive by "giant rats" to prove they suffered before they died.

One sick mother-fucker.

I am sorry to inform you all that you are clearly wrong about what this man caught. It is clearly Splinter from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, who chose not to open a can of whoop-ass in front of the crowd for fear of exposing himself. Tomorrow's newspaper will probably read that Mr. Xian was found dead with one foot up his heart of darkness and the other in his mouth. Way I figure this is that if there is one country that is likely to produce mutant ninja turtles due to toxic waste, it's China. I'd watch out if I were in China right now, turtles are a common food there, and I have a feeling there might be some harsh feelings as a result...stay tuned...

And at the dockyards in Halifax (or any dockyard, I imagine).  They're huge!  :o
