hey, I am interested in join the Army with the infantry but I am also interested in firefighting which happens to be in the Air Force. So my question is if I join the infantry and say 5 to 10 years down the road I, for some reason or another wanna try for the firefighting, would I be able to transfer over to the Air Force?

I don‘t think there would be a problem, but you would have to do some courses for sure. I don‘t know if you‘d keep your rank or not.

A friend of mine went from reserve army MP to reserve air force technician (of some description), took a few months and he had to do some courses.

Expect a file folder full of paperwork for it though.

You would request a LOTP (Land Occupational Transfer Process) for fire fighter (within your first 6 years of service). After that there are VOTP‘s (voluntary occupational transfer) and a few others. So yes you can go in under the Infantry banner and transfer over to another trade. Not the easisest route but still possible.

and transfering between elements can take 6-8 mths--
got that heads up today

ok thx
I had a feeling that if it was possible that it would take some time, but now knowing that it can be done makes me feel at bit better.
