Goretex jacket, hood in or out?

Not quite sure how to put this out as a question, but here it goes:

What are people's opinions/personal knowledge of rules on the whether or not the hood of the Goretex jacket MUST be worn in at all times?  I have noticed that many soldiers in/from Valcartier has no problems wearing it out of their jackets, yet people here at CFB Gagetown seem to frown upon it.  Are there any written regulations on this item of dress or am I going to have to ask my SSM personally?  I will wait and see what we can get from the forum before I go to that extreme.. he kind of scares me.. haha.

I haven't seen anything in writing, but the practice I've seen is simply to keep it inside when you're not wearing it, and obviously it's outside when you're actually using it (or on the verge of using it, or after having just used it ... in order to let it dry off).

My kneejerk reaction is that it's probably a common sense thing - I sure hope it is, in reality.

Granted, this is taken from Halifax, Para 1 is the overall authority for each Base, so don't consider this Gospel.   It may help, until we find a quote from the actual Dress Instructions.   Sorry, haven't had that much time to search for it.   This is not the whole message, but para 7 is what you are looking for.   Cheers

The other reason I ask about the hood is because what warrants "correct use"?  I mean, what if the hood is used as a windbreaking tool?  Are hoods only used in wet weather?  What constitutes "proper" use of a hood?  If I get cold ears all the time should I wear my tuque and forgoe the hood?  Or can I use my hood in conjunction with a beret?  And if I do use it with my beret on a regular basis, do I have to "hood in, hood out" everytime I enter/exit a building?  Common sense was suggested as an easy thing, but is it really that cut and dry?

C'mon. You've got a CD, a Black Hat, your posted to the School and your asking this here. I would have expected you to find the answer there and tell the rest of the world. Too bad Lance is retired, you could've asked him. I'm sure he would have gone to great lengths to point out the flaws in the system. Failing that, I'm sure Recce41 has his door open, drop in and see him.

Oh yeah.. I could do that..but I like to see what the other "flavours" in Canada have as answers... good point though,but Recce41 scares me even more.. haha
