Some of the folks from CANSOFCOM were decorated by the Governor General yesterday in a private ceremony:

During a private ceremony today at Rideau Hall, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, presented some of Canada’s highest honours to members of the Canadian Special Operations Forces Command (CANSOFCOM). The decorations included two Medals of Military Valour, two Meritorious Service Crosses and seven Meritorious Service Medals, presented in recognition of bravery and commitment to service by personnel serving within CANSOFCOM during recent deployments. For security and operational reasons, recipients' names and citations are not released.

I have more detail than was contained in the press release up at The Torch. And yes, before you ask, I cleared that information with the appropriate official channel before posting it.

Bottom line: BZ to the gents - and lady - who were recognized, albeit anonymously.

What's the point of announcing them then?
So that those paying attention know that SOFCOM pers are deployed on operations and performing meritorious service, and not just sitting around DHTC, Petawawa, and/or Trenton suntanning.

The SOFCOM guys can nudge themselves in the ribs and say.... that's us!.... (behind closed doors)

(although I tend to use "guys" in the gender-inclusive form myself ;) )

I wonder if their medals will actually be non-descript ovals, black of course, so that when people see them on parade, there will be no "ackward questions" regarding "where'd you get that?"

[/sarcasm]

Congrats to all the recipients!

I'm sure they can improvise a good story if they need to...

by opening it with:

Well if you buy me a beer, I might tell you, but then I will have to kill you.

Congratulations to the valient gentlemen and lady. Thanks for the work which you go about doing so quietly, not seeking fortune or individual fame, but nonetheless making this world safer for the rest of us. :cdnsalute:

Geez a guy asks a simple question. ;D

thats ok, I was shocked when I heard that there were women who competed JTF2 selection and CSOR's SOBQ courses...

But then again, we do(did) have a female SAR Tech.

Actually there are many women soldiers in CANSOF. I am sure there is a female helo pilot somewhere here that does not wear a blue wedge/beret to work.
