Good morning/afternoon/evening my fellow Canadians. I have just recently signed up on this site, which, by the way, I think is one of the best sites on the www. Very Canadian too, with all the green and red :p .
In brief, I, now a student, have decided to pursue a carrer in the Canadian Military, perhaps as a Lieutenant after graduation from the RMC (Royal Military College). The military has inspired me since about 2001, and, if all stands, I will see it through. I have always desired to be part of a grand team, lead great forces into a devastating battle, travel the world and so forth. I know it‘s not all that romantic in the army, but I want to do something with my life.
As I was born on 1987, I would not really be considered a "modern guy," but more of an "old fashioned" kind of guy. I am interested in the study of the world and its history, all the great events and all the wars of the 20th century and before. I appreciate music of the 1940s, 50s, and 60s, and partially 70s (e.g. Big Band, Original Rock and Roll, Classic Rock, etc...). HowlinOldies
All in all, I do want to enlist in the Canadian Army, and I just hope I don‘t get shot too quick >:|

I enjoy long walks on the beach, sunny days, candle lit dinners and watching midget wrestling...wait a minute, this isn‘t matchmaker.ca!! **** it!

Nuts, it‘s finally happened. People are joining the army that were born the same year I joined.

Is there a support group? Or is that what all the drinking in the Sgt‘s Mess is about?

Thats cool. I‘ve been just trying to get in the army for the past 2 years.. I‘m not very acidemic, I keep failing the CFAT. The Lorne Scots are not doing co-op for high-school, Hamilton is from what I herd.. So i‘m going to see what I can do to get in it. I would volunteer to be the army searously.. if of course they waiver the CFAT. Med and Physical I can likly pass. Though I would‘ent volunteer for the rest of my life, i‘m thinking 6months. then I can prove myself in person and not on paper.. But what ever happens .. happens.. I will keep trying and trying.. Never say never.. And I think its cool you tould us about you‘re self, Its good to see you have expectations for you‘re self.. though .. there is .. counting you‘re chickens before they hatch..... but what-ever .. good for you. Go for it!

Dano: The CF is certainly not going to waive the CFAT simply because you can‘t pass it after multiple attempts. Based on your English grammar and spelling skills alone, I would say that a good thing you‘re required to pass it.

I know you probably think that reading and writing are unecessary skills to be an infantry soldier, but you couldn‘t be more wrong. The ability to communicate effectively in writing is an essential skill for NCMs and ABSOLUTELY VITAL for NCOs and Officers. If you can‘t write a set of orders, or even memoranda that make cohesive sense, then you‘re not much use as a soldier. The army is run on paperwork, don‘t forget.

Stay in school, study hard, learn more, and then join. The army will still be around in the few years it will take you to get a diploma.

Re: Dano,

All of the replies to your post are right. Though some of the older NCO‘s writing skills leave much to be desired, (due to joining up before successfully graduating high school) todays army does in fact require an inordinate amount of clerical skills, including writing. The infantry are not the dullards that some unfortunates make them to be. With the very technical weapons platforms including the computer on wheels that the Coyote and LAV‘s are they need some knowledge of computer and software. Since they must handle the newest generation of computerized radios, GPS‘s and range finders these guys are all but specialists in their trades. Keep plugging away at those grades, use your summers. We will not lower the entrance exam too much. ( I feel that last must be tongue in cheek). VVV
