Gee, even with all those French Foreign Legionnaires on the island, nationalists are rumbling.....

14 Dec 07 - Shepherd jailed for life in Corsica killing:  Shepherd Yvan Colonna was found guilty on Thursday of killing France's top government representative in Corsica in 1998 and sentenced to life in jail.  The murder of Claude Erignac was the most serious political assassination in France since World War Two and marked the peak of nationalist violence on the Mediterranean island.  The 47-year-old Colonna denied killing Erignac and accused erstwhile friends in the nationalist movement of hiding the identity of the real murderer during his month-long trial ....

15 Dec 07 - Wave of violence follows murder conviction of Corsican nationalist:  The conviction of a Corsican nationalist for the murder of a French prefect has provoked a wave of violence and protest demonstrations on the Mediterranean island, French media reported on Friday. After the conviction was announced late Thursday, demonstrators massed before the courthouse in the Corsican city of Bastia, set rubbish bins on fire and stoned the building.  In addition, a police station in Zicavio in southern Corsica was raked with machine-gun fire overnight. No injuries were reported.  Overnight, two villas were destroyed by explosions in the region of Bonifacio, in the south of the island.  One of the villas belonged to a childhood friend of Dominique Erignac, the widow of Claude Erignac, the Corsican prefect, or governor general, who was assassinated on February 6, 1998, in Ajaccio while on the way to the theatre ....

15 Dec 07 - NATIONALISTS IN ARSON ATTACKS:  Ajaccio Police in Corsica were dealing with separatist fire-bombings and violence after an islander was given a life sentence for the murder of the governor, Claude Erignac, in 1998. Yvan Colonna, 47, a shepherd, was sentenced by a terrorist court in Paris after being captured in 2003 ....

20 Dec 07 - Two explosions rock town on island of Corsica:  Two almost simultaneous explosions shook the Corsican town of Ajaccio overnight causing substantial damage but no serious injuries, Interior Ministry sources said early Thursday. The Prefects Office and the Departmental Equipment and Infrastructure Office were both hit by suspected Corsican separatist militants at close to 1.30 am local time.  The Prefects Office was badly damaged and Interior Minister Michele Alliot-Marie said that two police guards barely escaped injury in the blast.  In the other attack against the local government building, a powerful hand grenade was thrown at the building, causing damage. One old woman was treated for shock.  In a statement, Alliot-Marie condemned the attacks "in the strongest terms." ....

It reminds me of my sweet Basque fatherland... nationalist punks setting garbage bins on fire and playing with HMEs. I really despise nationalist douche bags. They harm more of "their people" and damage the infrastructure of their beloved region in the name of self determination. Logical... nope. Maybe alterior motives.... yep.
