Hello everybody.I was wondering I'm seriously thought about joining the armed forces But i was looking at something more as a postal clerk or something along that lines...Right now I'am a forklift driver working for 14 bucks and hour and wants to do something more career oriented without wasting money on school(since i don't know what i really want to be) I find the armed forces would be good since I can save some money up and get good benefits and also help the resume in the future.........just a few Questions I would like to ask before I become 100%...

What would my dailey duties be as postal clerk(from someone who has done it)?

Would you Recommend it ?

salary?

how is the training process?

what other jobs with just a high school diploma would you reccomend other then Postal clerk?

Being involved in sports outside of it(just a brief summary as what activitys i can get into Ex:wrestling, baseball etc?

I might have a few questions later on.....I Understand My questions may not be the best but I hope someone could Answer then in a Nice fashionable manner. I have read about my questions online before but I Perfer input from some people with experience....Thanks and happy new year

I would recommend going to forces.ca... It has most of the information that you are asking for. Go to the specific page about your specific trade, it will have information about daily routine, training etc. The questions are very broad and hard to answer. Under benefits, you can also find the pay scale.

If you have any other specific questions, I am sure someone here will be happy to help you.

cheers

Thank you very much for the kind response I will surf forces.ca for a bit and if i decide to find out more i should maybe make a trip to the local recruitment center cheers....

I am guessing you are from BC... Being a Canuck and all :)

There is a Recruitment Center in Victoria and New Westminster ( Greater Vancouver) If you are from the interior, do not drive to Vancouver. They do not have it on the website but they do have a recruitment center I THINK in Kelowna. Website is not updated. You can call to get their contact information.

I was there in New West 2 weeks ago and a guy drove all the way from Kelowna just to hand in his application, everyone felt sorry for him :) because he did not know about the recruitment center 10 mins from his place...

Hi there...I'm not a postie, but spend alot of time with them..so I'll try to help.  Also, I don't think there is many posties on here.

Come to work..sort incoming and outgoing mail.  Print labels..weigh packages etc etc....

Would you Recommend it ?
All depends on what you`re into.  The posties I know seem to like it ok.  Keep in mind it`s normally a trade for remusters...so most people I know are on the tail end of their careers and are looking to wind down.  I don`t know about an army base..but in Halifax, they can be busy...but the job is fairly low-key.

salary?
Lots of info on forces.gc.ca.....basically first year is low 30`s...and move on up each year.  By 4th year, you make mid 55`s
how is the training process?
Only a few weeks in Trenton for the trade course...living in a HOTEL!....after basic training of course.

what other jobs with just a high school diploma would you reccomend other then Postal clerk?
You can do almost all NCM jobs you`d want with gr. 12.  Fix planes....truck driver......naval electronics tech.....navy operator......combat arms trades....traffic tech....cook..and so son and so son.  I`d reccomend research EVERY trade and pick what only interests you.

Being involved in sports outside of it(just a brief summary as what activitys i can get into Ex:wrestling, baseball etc?
Lots of sports teams to pick from.

Hope I helped out a bit:)

RE: Sports

From what the husband tells me, hockey's pretty popular in the CF, as in the rest of Canada. There are a number of sports teams you can join once you're in as far as I know.  You can check with your base gym and possibly your unit once you finish training and all that jazz.

You do know that "Canuck" is a term often used to refer to Canadians in general right ?
