Got this in an email this a.m. and found it quite interesting, thought I'd share.

Lockheed During WWII

Lockheed During W.W.II (unbelievable 1940s pictures) This is pretty neat--special effects during the 1940's: I have never seen these pictures or knew that we had gone this far to protect us.

During World War II the Army Corps of Engineers needed to hide the Lockheed Burbank Aircraft Plant to protect it from Japanese air attack.

They covered it with camouflage netting  to make it look like a rural subdivision from the air.

Very impressive.  The Brits also had a man by the name of Jasper Maskelyne who was known as the War Magician.  He is purported to have done some amazing work.  There is a book by David Fisher, called the War Magician.  Good read.

That's a lot of cam nets! I wouldn't want to bug out with that set up... ha ha..

Ive read that as well, but there are a few people out there who disparage his work and accounts.   One of them reputes to be is own son, try and figure that one out...

But the Lockheed job, such a huge area to cover, very impressive...

If I remember correctly from the book, Jasper's ancestor was cursed or prophesied to have the following 10 generations of males be magicians and Jasper was the 10th.  Perhaps his Son, was not impressed with how things turned out.  Being a showman, I am sure that he was his best promoter overall.  But, I am sure he did do some good work nevertheless.  I believe there was even a movie about him at one time or going to be and that Tom Cruise was going to play his character.

Indeed, at less now we have the new combats with the button cover up design. I"m tried of falling off the HLVW PLS while throwing the cam net over! Not fun!

Anyone catch the program on Churchill's secret bunkers during WW2? Pretty amazing stuff taking the old postal office and diggin it out ala prison break style and hiding the dirt in the daily mail trucks  :)
