(I know a few other posters have suggested this in one way or another in some other threads...)

You know how colleges and universities give out honourary degrees to esteemed people who've done a public service of some sort?  How about army.ca granting honourary subscriptions to outstanding members of the public - journalists, writers, volunteers, etc.?  Maybe making this a rare or annual thing a la "Time Man of the Year" so it's that much more valuable?  Polling the members of army.ca for their nomination?  Sending them a nice mail plus the coin, etc. - and encouraging them to sign up?

Hi paffomaybe,

We've already considered something along those lines, such as what was discussed here:

http://forums.army.ca/forums/threads/32057.0.html

It seems to remain in a perpetual state of "not quite readiness" in that the same unresolved questions keep coming up around basis for nomination, confirming a nominee's status, finding a way to contact them, etc. I think looking up the hill from the bottom, it seems like an administratively intense task to take on at the moment, but it's never been completely set aside either.

Cheers
Mike

Cool idea, any thoughts or suggestions on who to nominate if Mike and the DS Staff approved it?

It's not time to go down that road.  If, at some future time, the mechanism is put in place, then a system for nominations can be part of the program.

So, for now, it's not happening. When it does, and the bugs are worked out (we think), then the owner will announce it. In the meantime, don't turn down any trips waiting for it.
