Well, my experience has always been people are generally treated how they treat others. Act like the village idiot and you will be the village idiot, act like a grownup who wants to learn and do the best they can and you will be given the opportunity to learn and excel.

As for civie dress prior to kitting, I‘m not sure what your unit would expect, so take this for what it‘s worth, however I probably wouldn‘t be far off in suggesting you show up in "casual" attire. ie. a button down shirt, cotton pants and shoes that aren‘t dirty sneakers since you don‘t want to be beating up a suit going through QM etc. I‘m sure you‘ll see folks showing up in T-shirts and jeans, and while there probably isn‘t anything totally wrong with that, it never hurts to present a professional image from the start.

"HEY, NEW GUY GET OVER HERE...
THATS YES, MASTER CORPORAL, AND GET YOUR HEELS TOGETHER WHEN YOU ADDRESS ME, IS THAT UNDERSTOOD? :crybaby: GOOD, now relax, sit down, so how you move, is everything going ok?"
:mg:

Get the hint?

Also largely depends if your reg force or reserves. Also what trade you are. Logistics is a lot more relaxed then infantry and in the reserves some corporals will jack you up for not calling them corporal and in the regs some sargents jack you up for not calling them by their first name.
