Teacher keeps a 40mm anti-aircraft shell on his desk at school, and slams it down on a bug to kill it.  The shell explodes, blowing his hand off.

Hah!  Darwinism in action.  Or that fly had a heap of good karma.  Hopefully none of the kids were hurt.
I'm betting it was only the primer.  I have to imagine a fully charged 40 mm round would do a lot more damage.

Darwin is laughing his head off.....I'm sure the adult students weren't impressed.

Regards

Well at least no one here tried to swat anything with it......

Anonymous donor gives unexploded anti-aircraft shell to Manitoba thrift store

ALTONA, Man. (CP) -- Police are trying to track down the person who donated an unexploded anti-aircraft shell to a thrift store in southern Manitoba.
The shell, which was described as 1950s-era antique, was dropped off at the business overnight on April 1, along with several other items.

The store manager alerted local police in the morning. Altona Police Chief Glen Robinson said they called the military as soon as they realized what they were dealing with.
"We contacted the Canadian Armed Forces, and they sent a team of bomb ordnance personnel out, and they retrieved the ordnance and took it back to Winnipeg to detonate," explained Robinson.
He added that the shell was quite large.
"The base would have been three inches," said Robinson. "It would have been over a foot tall, and still had the shell intact in it. And who knows what could have happened? It would have been dangerous to keep."
Robinson said the primer on the round had been fired, but the end of it was still intact.
Robinson said someone was likely keeping the shell as a souvenir without realizing how potentially dangerous it was.
