Hey Guys and Gals,

I have a little issue going on here.  So I have been running quite frequently lately. Five to six times a week, roughly 3-4.5 Kms.  Trying to get into shape for the CF.  I have noticed that over the last couple of weeks during my run, about 2.5 Kms into it, I have to really pee.

So before running I have been trying to get rid of any extra fluid in there, but there's no luck.  Nothing wants to come out.  So am I just shaking my bladder up too much or what?

Sorry to be so upfront with this, but I'm not sure how to word it.  Has anyone experienced this before?  Someone said to cut back on my fluids, but I don't want dehydrate myself.

I found some info that may put your mind at ease. Apparently this is not that rare. Here is a quote from http://www.valleystriders.org.uk/ccol9911.htm
in regards to bladder control while running, that may shed some light on the situation for you:
"The very act of racing in an endurance event causes what the medical profession calls "vascular shunt", which is the transfer of (oxygen-carrying) blood to the working muscles from places where it’s not needed, e.g. the bladder, the bowel and the brain."

Apparently this is the same phenominon that causes people to vomit during or after long distance runs. Basically your body is putting so much energy into the muscles required for running, that other parts of the body are deprived of the energy needed to control your other muscles.

I ran into that same problem. I run longer distance 5km-12km and I find that I sometimes need to take a pee, and the other, in the middle of the run. So now I go to the washroom right after my two warm up laps. (I run outside my local gym on a 400m track) Two laps at a decent pace will usually loosen me up.

Most awkward post I have ever written….

Hope this helps.

lol its one of those things eh? A whole lot of people have it but, just dont wanna tell but me being an upfront guy...i have that same problem too, im not running, instead i got football practice, and right in the middle with all the equipment on, i gotta go.lol

BTW would my football practices count as a form of cardo, im wanting to get in shape as best i can before the end of grade 12, and idk if after the practice i should go for a run or early in the morning before i go to school? Or if the football practices will do for now. My coach's incorporate alot of different exercises into the practice and its usually from 2:45 to 5:00, and they got this "Fun" thing this year called Plyometrics, and leg lunges.

Thanks.

Throw me in the pile of Running Pee'ers too. I don't have trouble talking about it though, I think everyone that i've ever ran with more than once knows about it :). The friend I normally enter races with is always shaking his head in mock disgust with me. A warm up of about 5 min before a race will normally helps me out, I'll piss right after.  Other than that I just go mid-race if I can, and if not, I run really really fast to get to the finish!

Thanks everyone, glad to see I'm not the only one out there who has gone through this.  Seems to have cleared up this week.  Did a 3.5 K yesterday and a 5 K today and no "urges" present.  Maybe it only happens during the full moon or something.  :-\

haha, wow, and here I thought I was the only one to get this.  It usually happens to me when I start running again after an extended period of not running.
