Hi, The reason I think I lucked out is because i applied in Van. and well, i was rejected for 9 months due to my passed drug usage, i was super upset! 9 months not too long, but not too short a period either.  But I broke my hand, and had surgery on it less then a week later, and if I were to have been accepted, i would have failed the physical... now if i did fail that physical, I would have to then wait a year to re-apply... is that correct, or not? I think im right, but that may be just RCMP?! If im right, and I would have to wait... Being denied processing saved me roughly 3 months of waiting!?

No, it didn't help.  You'll have to start the waiting game again when you apply, provided you can stay clean, and that the Cf will take you.  As for the physical, they could have delayed your application for  that, but as such you'll have to start again from scratch.

I wasn't far in th waiting game, i wrote the CFAT passed well i think (they don't tell you).  The same day it was decided that i wait 9 months.  I have been clean since the summer after graduating highschool  in 2002, so.. it was decided 9 months will make the difference....of what i don't know.... and i was told that i can come back in December and they will then process my information further, and that i would not have to re-write that CFAT.

Oh, I didn't see that part...(I know u didn't write too much, my bad).  So they would delay the physical until I am ready for it... damn.  Ok, well I would have to wait only a month or 2 then... at least that's how long I think it's gonna take to heal, how long it will take to get my strength back though im not sure... this sure does suck... thanks for the quik response.

Does anyone know how long a broken hand would take to heal.  The break is called a "Boxer's Fracture" but the two bones (pinky and index) are now screwed together (by the wrist). Any doctors in the house? haha...  ???

I broke my hand years ago and it took a few weeks to heal, but it wasn't the type of break you're talking about. However, if I were you, I'd want to talk to someone in the CFRC to see how that break, and now having pins in your hand, will affect your medical in 9 month's time. You may be looking at further delays, but I'm not sure.

Oh, good idea ps! Thanks, i will do that.  I never realy thought of it... I guess that would all depend on how it heals though too, huh.  I think that they are taking the screws out later, but not 100% sure on how that will happen, the doctor in the hospital wasn't too informative, I literally had to beg him for answers...  But I will need my hand to work to do the job.  Do they ask if you have had surgery's before in the passed and how they have affected you or what?
Thanks again!

They will ask if you've had surgery, and then you'll have to give details.  They'll write down as much as they can, and you may have to get a note from a doctor or physiotherapist.  The med staff in Borden will have the final say.

Ok I guess it would be smart to get the note from my doctor before I go for my Medical so I'm prepared,  thanks BDTyre.

Just though I would let you know that you will have minimal use of that hand for a little while. I had the boxers fracture from a fight I was in a longtime ago it took 2 months to heal and after that the muscle in my hand was really tight from staying in the same postion for so long. Im not sure if getting the pins out and running right into the army is such a good thing you should probably wait awhile untill you know you have full use again and will be able to do everything your told in bmq.

Sounds good! I do plan to re-abilitate (I think that's the "phrase") my hand as fast as possible though.  It's been only 3 days and I'm missing my regular work-out routine already.  But if you guys are right and it takes about 2 months for the screw to come out and my hand to have healed, I should still have like 6-7 months to get my hand back to tip-top shape... at least that's what I'm hoping for!

I guess it all depends on peoples personal recovery time. Mine was really bad but because of being stupid I deserved it and it took awhile to heal. Yours might take as long as mine did but it could take longer just remember to have a bit of time to recover cause you wont be any good in the forces if you cant use your hand.

I've had every knuckle on both hands broken, my job in hockey was fighting. Can't skate, can't score then fight. First time I broke them I was out for 5 weeks. After a couple of times they use to just get sore and I could go on with them like that, stupid though, I will most likely end up with arthritis in both hands as I get older, no long term trouble so far.

Thanks TomGledhill for the luck! I was shocked when they said I required surgery, I didnt realize it was broken tell the next day, the liqour tended to hide the pain I guess.  I sure didn't think surgery would have to take place, kind of shocked me.  And thanks to the rest of you for your input! I appreciate it.  I'm deffinitly gonna want the use of my hand so I guess I will have to ask the doctor when it will be ok to start lifting weights and all that again, but it's lookin like I will have alot of time so no rush!
