You're lucky!! Do you use them for hunting too?? >
Footwear policy does state that pers shouldn't be issued new footwear within 30 days of release (6 months for custom/LPOd), but then again ... most of us Suppies working at clothing stores have no idea whether a member standing in front of us asking to exchange (or be issued boots he is entitled to) is getting out within the next 30 days (6 months for custom/LPO) -- unless the member tells us.
The only way we'd know you were releasing within "X" time period - is if we knew you personally, or we had been the one to personally book your bulk Kit Return Upon Release Appointment. If you are just walking in for an exchange etc ... we have no idea.
Nice that the rule exists and actually makes sense too - it's too bad that in order to enforce/comply with it, our Suppie Extra Sensory Perception abilities have to be at their peak. Seeing as how I'm the only suppie I know with ESP ... (which apparently works like shit during NHL playoffs [ %^&%#@ Boston]) ... it'd turn out to be just another case of "If the Suppy doesn't ask you 100 questions ... you'll get something your not supposed to."
It's lovely how we always end up required to "grill" the soldier at the counter every time with questions or something slips through.
Ergo - "One man, One full kit, for duration of entire career" would be an awesome standard to actually achieve in the military. Imagine that!! Every soldier getting every piece of kit he's entitled to right off the bat --- and retaining it for his entire career without having to turn it in at Unit A to be re-issued at Unit B. Then, you just need to visit CSG for exchanges of it periodicly when you require an exchange. Shocking idea isn't it?
Imagine too, the time and PYs that would be saved by soldiers actually having everything permanently issued to them for deployment and no trips back and forth required each and every time he finds himself deploying overseas. Imagine too, that in a Dom Op situation ... should shit hit the fan at a town near you --- the CF could actually deploy a Unit who would actually HAVE the kit required to respond instead of having to scramble it's ass off (looking like unprepared idiots) to issue required gear to soldiers to enable them to respond. <--- and I'll use the flooding in BC as an example when a whole bunch of Supply Techs were scrambling to find a whole bunch of kit for a whole bunch of soldiers/sailors/airmen who had been placed on standby for response to floods.
I just sit back and roll my eye. I don't think a terrorist org is going to give us a lot of heads-up notice to get soldiers/sailors/airmen kitted out to deal with a situation ... thank fuck mother nature did in that situation.
Something IS seriously wrong with a military where a soldier does NOT have the kit he would be required to have to immediately respond to incidents - domestic or foreign.
It is an entirely correctable situation. Sure, it would cost a lot of money to issue each and every member the full range of kit --- but doing that full issue ONCE and having them retain it for career duration could be paid for with all the money wasted on having soldiers spend 200 hours of their career being issued/turning in the exact same kit items each and every time they deploy over and over again like a big rotating door at clothing stores.
~Whew~ ... and there goeth my rant about the fucked up supply system/CF policy for today ...(they'll be thankful at work today that it occured here instead of there!! Because -- they got a great one yesterday!! >
