I think Canada should buy Bradley AFVs

The 30mm chain gun has been around for a long long time. There was talk even in the 80's of upgunning the Bradley with the 30mm, but nothing ever came of it. There aren't any serious plans to up-gun it. Somebody up above mentioned the initial fielding of the Bradley and how much money it cost. I served in one of the first units in Europe to field the Bradley and it was a royal pain in the *** for the first year or so. As a matter of fact, we had a field rep from FMC attached to our squadron for a year. I'm tellin' you guys. You do not want Bradleys.

Here are a couple of pictures of me and my crew. The daytime one is us on the East German border in the summer of 89. The night time one is us firing Bradley Table VIII in 88, I think. My LT took this fromt he range tower. It's one of my favorite pictures.

The CTIS is a nightmare and has not been sorted out short of placing plugs in the hubs. It CONSTANTLY leaks in the sandbox.

Of course if you do leave them connected you have to keep at least a good 2 L bottle of 80W90 on board just for top ups of the hubs alone.

Pure garbage system......from and end user POV.

The Yanks we were with in the FOBs had done the same thing to their entire fleet of trucks that were CTIS equiped as well.

They've had the system for years...and hate it as much.

Regards

Hey Master Corporal, dont bag the bike! Its a good bit of kit (amphibious up to 22cm, can climb grades of 40%, maximum crew of three, top speed of 60km/h...who am i kidding, i'm just making all that up!) and i bet me and it'll beat whatever the hell it was your driving!!! Haha, i'm kidding, thanks for the wave today anyway, i'm going to be following you from tuesday, being put in a real squadron from then.

And Wes, if you do want some photos i'll get out the camera and snap a couple for you (carefully including all top secret canadian gear i can, again with the joke), i'll even pose in them if your really lucky  :-*!!! Not in that way though.

It seems the ASLAVS and the Coyotes, while on the same platform, are very different vehicles for different roles. Canadians have all the gucci serv equipment that i'm pretty sure we dont have for starts. While the same basic vehicle they've been differently adapted, although please correct me here, thats just a laymens opinion.
Isnt it great? This post went from, "I've looked on the internet and decided that to win the next war we need to do this because these stats beat these stats" to a (at least semi) serious discussion by you gentlemen. Its something that a young digger like me is glad to have to look over when i'm not sure of something.
Hope Queensland is sunny for you Wes and hope Canada day is a blast for everyone else,

Here in sunny Queensland we are just 7h 19mins from 01 Jul, Canada Day. I will endeavour to cook up a couple of steaks tomorrow, and have a few CC and ginger ales along with them.

Oh, ya, do take a few UNCLAS pics if you can.

Cheers,

Wes

I can a take a few NO CLASS pictures.. but then my speedo would have to put on, and I'd need to be oiled up by "a friend".. but if you want em..

Recce by Death, are you qualified LAV3?  You guys have any at the regiment?  Or just overseas? I thought I saw one in the regimental lines when I visit Valcatraz last week... wasn't exactly looking...

Boy, ya'll are throwin' some acronyms around that have me scratchin' my head. ASLAV, CTIS, NO CLASS.  ::) Don't ya' just turn on the turret power, engage the stab and pull the triggers on your cadillacs? Oh yeah, swtich to high mag first...

:tank:

That'l be X20.... ;D

Here is the difference in size in the Coyote and LAV III (The Coyote (similar to the ASLAV) is in between two LAV III):

Here is a LAVIII with the Dvr Hatch open, next to a Leo 1C2.  The CTIS wheel hubs are visible also.

I can get a few as well. We have a few here sans add on armour package.

Bzz....nope. Never got the course, too busy doing other things like teaching on courses and TMST stuff. Been a crew on them long enough though and got to know it pretty well.

Did you know you can swap a pack in about 4 hours with a good crew?    ;)

Differences in the exhausts can be seen here (LAV III and then Coyotes) and then the HUD on the Bison:

I was using the acronym "no class" to suggest just that!  It wasn't an acronym.  I was offering up a picture of me in my Cornwallis blue speedo...any takers?

Ahhhh...Centurian Field right George?

I shudder at the thought.
