I am thinking about joining and I would like some advice.

I am a girl, turning 22, and will be completing an engineering technology diploma soon. I plan to continue my education and study to be an engineer. I am not as fit as I'd like to be but I started exercising regularly since January. I do not smoke, do drugs, or drink. My vision is -4.25 or so in both eyes. Also I will have some student loan debts. I am not sure if I should work for awhile to pay off my school debts and join the military later. I would like to join the military because I feel it would help me become a better, more confident person. I would also like to become more disciplined as well.

Do you have any advice for me? What would you do in my situation?

Thank you.

Based on the terms of this website you know this is NOT an official website.
So opinions here posted here are worth the same as a fart in the wind.

That being said, to answer your post.

Why are you asking?
What you posted of your education, demographic and lifestyle meet one of the target groups the CF is always looking for.
We are all human and want to put our best application forward.

Read these forums, even old threads that might not exactly match your perfect question will most likely turn out to be very much what the answer ends up being if you ever end up on the other end of your question.

You are already posting your own 'way ahead', so why did you post in the first place?

If you are looking for a boost of self confidence here by asking, oops I do not have 'kid gloves' in my kit.

Will my student loans prevent me from joining if I apply right now?

Or is it better to apply after I paid off my school debts?

Thank you.

Medical Thread: http://forums.army.ca/forums/threads/37674.0.html

Nutrition Thread: http://forums.army.ca/forums/threads/48433.0.html

Information on the new FORCE Physical training standard: http://forums.army.ca/forums/threads/106313.0.html

www.forces.ca will also have a lot of information for you. I recommend you watch the web series "Basic Up: Reloaded" that was produced a while ago, to know what to expect in basic training. Just search for it in google. What they principally wanted to know about debts in my case is if I would be able to meet my financial obligations with the salary the CF would be paying me, so Student Loans shouldn't be a problem.

Personally, I would suggest you keep up the physical training and do a good mix of workouts, be it muscular, cardio, running etc... Take on extra curriculars like volunteering or a job, those usually make your file more competitive. Your vision might prevent you from entering some trades, but depending on your accuity on the chart, that might not be the case (Look at the medical thread I linked you, this is the medical standards evaluated by the CF) You might also want to look at the DEO program (Direct Entry Officer), where you could potentially put your engineering degree to good use.

Other than that, I wish you good luck if/when you decide to apply.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and I will add the perenial: Call/Go to your local recruiting center, they will have much more complete information than what you can find on here as to the particulars of your situation,

you do not bother SEARCHing

The two links you posted did not answer my question but Chelomo has already answered it.

I will contact a recruiting office on Monday.

Thank you.

IF......you followed up with your own initiative. I did provide the search parameters
for you to read the other 87 threads.
Instead you are unhappy with the two threads included as the example.

So you do prefer spoonfeeding instead of searching for answers.

Good to know.

I am assuming you are having a bad day. My question has already been answered so this thread may be closed.

Thank you.

Kratz has a good point, having recently joined Army.ca myself, there is a strong culture of "do it yourself". I advise you take heed of his words, and start doing some research in topics around the forums, since if you join the CF you won't always have someone holding your hand. Doing some research by yourself shows initiative and a "go getter" personality, traits that are valued by the military (as well as most civil employers).

Glad to see the policing yourselves approach to this thread. I believe that sometimes, very unfortunately, folks just post the links someone is looking for not to forgive laziness but because it's easier than getting into a protracted discussion on the merits of actually doing some of the legwork yourself.

I wish more would take kratz's approach and pull the person up for it.

sunny, hope you found the info you're looking for. In the future it would be nice if you at least made an effort before asking someone else to.
