Ideas to keep Gas Prices Fair

Would it not be more accurate to suggest that the "supply is controlled"? We in Canada are kind of blessed with the black gold. Of course, it is the same effect, it's just that now it is more of someone deciding to go for a couple of extra dollars this month, not an actual shortage of the raw product.

Oil is at a 4 month low and gas prices are at near record prices, go figure.
The last time oil was this price gas was around $1.00 p/l, go figure.
OPEC is cutting production trying to prop up prices.
So I guess you can't blame it on the price of oil.

The of crude oil and the price of refined products don't move in lockstep.  The price of crude is falling because demand is falling sharply due to higher gas prices.  There's loads of oil sitting in barges and tankers with no buyers.  It's refining and transport capacity issues that are being blamed for prices now - or rather - anticipation of a lot of damage to infrastructure that seems to have been not so bad - and prices have started to fall again.

And Teeps - I live in Oshawa and know all about the woes of the plant there - but GM should have seen the writing on the wall for a long long time.  They also have bigger problems with labour costs being uncompetitive due to the appreciated Canadian dollar, and CAW's inflexibility.  And even more problematic is their pensions and benefits system - they were agreed to, as an insider told me, when an auto worker retired at 65 and died by 70 - not to support long retirements.  The amount of money that their drug plan spends on Viagra alone in North America is apparently staggering.  That said I think GM is placing three new products in Oshawa which should take some of the sting off, but even Toyota is now saying they'll have to go with reduced shifts at their new plant in Woodstock because of slower demand for vehicles in general.  They have a long way to go though to win back consumer confidence (like fixing their dealer network, that'd be a good start!) before they'll be in the black.

Upgrade the facility at Come by Chance, install a pipeline to mainland and viola. Locally produced oil and associated products.

Funny thing is that most of us know that... But the goverment here keeps setting the price up when oil goes up.. And tells people the price is based on the price of oil.. but when oil goes down it then says  they don't move in lockstep.
And by the way... there has been no price drop at all in Nova Scotia
