IE 20 and Imediate Pension at 20 years service

I can't remember the specifics, but does anyone happen to remember the reference CANFORGEN for when the change happened?

I was also only offered an IE25, and was past OFP when they did the change, but didn't have the time after OFP to hit the cutoff.

Just curious as I'm now at 20 and would be nice to have the option, and planning on calling the pension people, but always good to read the refs ahead of time on my own if I can.
Not sure about that one. I am upset that some people were allowed to keep the 20 year pension while other people other people had to sign the 25 year pension!

I was on PRE and each Dept was allowed to offer the 20 year to 1 person. I guess I got lucky lol.

I'm sure that was a unit shenanigan.
Wow, that's crazy considering the sacrifice that some of us take. I did some dangerous missions throughout the world and I was hoping to keep my 20 year pension. I used up all of my 9 lives!

Ok so based upon a redress, I can offer you the following: in 2005 a policy change resulted in the replacement of indeterminate engagements of 20 years, with 25-year engagements, around that time CF Mil Pers Insr 05/05 was issued. The rules for TOS administration are contained within CF Mil Pers Insr 05/05, and at the time, those serving on an IE20 were offered the option of converting their engagement to an IE25 or remaining on an IE20.
In 2007, major changes to the CAF pension scheme came into force. These changes created the reserve force pension plan and modernized the CFSA. Unfortunately, none of the publications issued at the time explained the grandfathering rules for members who were serving on an IE20.
As for grandfathering, I point you towards the CFSA: A contributor exercising the option referred to in subsection 19(1) of the Act is entitled to an immediate annuity if
(a) they have completed a 20-year intermediate engagement that commenced before March 1, 2007 and are not serving on
an indefinite period of service;
(b) they have 10 or more years of regular force pensionable service and have reached retirement age;
(c) they are not an officer and have at least 25 years of regular force pensionable service; or
Thank you for the information!

I was in Trenton at the time, part of the Air Mov Sqn. In those days, new TOS of service were not automatically offered, and there was still a recommendation on the PER to offer them. My TOS were coming up for renewal that year, and I was specifically offered either an IE 20 which needed to be signed by a certain date, or I could wait and sign my IE 25 when it was offered after the point the IE 20 cut off occurred.

I remember there was a discussion on whether to offer everyone in the Squadron an IE 20 at that time, regardless of how many years they had until TOS was due for renewal, if they were QL3 qualified (all officers had already reached OFP). The argument not to make the offer was the concern of signing some of the low performers to long term contracts, and having to deal with the consequences of that down the road. In the end, everyone was given the opportunity to sign an IE 20.

Other Sqns on the Wing dealt with it differently, like saying if the TOS were not due for renewal in the FY, they weren't offered new TOS early.
